Number 17 - 21st October 2000

Many congratulations to Scott Penrose on becoming the first Magic Circle Stage Magician of the Year on Sunday 15th October. Scott won the President's Trophy and a cheque for £1,000 with a very smooth presentation of his classic dove act. Second place and a cheque for £500 went to Duncan Trillo. Third place and a cheque for £250 to Nick Einhorn. Eight competitors took part in this exciting new biennial competition, initiated by president Michael Bailey. Chris Woodward, Brian Miller and Michael Bailey formed the competition committee, and the technical team were under the expert guidance of Ross Mullis. Anita Harris, Annie Sedgwick, and Richard Gill judged. The Magic Circle Theatre was packed to capacity, and it really was a very enjoyable night of cabaret and stage magic. 21.10.00

Wayne Dobson called to say how impressed he was with the organisation, and sheer professionalism, of the National Swedish Magic Congress that he has just returned from (October 13th - 15th). The line-up read like a real who's who in top-notch magic and the whole event took place in a superb hotel and conference centre, complete with its own 450 seat luxury theatre. My most recent convention experience was Eastbourne to see this year's British Ring Shield Competition - which I think is in need of a major re-think. 21.10.00

The charismatic "paranormalist" Uri Geller popped up on ITV's Our House on Thursday night and showed Sally Grey around his Berkshire home. He then did some amazing things with crystals which totally stunned the presenter. 21.10.00
