Flying is definitely "in!" The latest flyer is The Snowman, complete with little boy, in the stage adaptation of the Raymond Briggs story that first appeared as a book and then an animation on Boxing Day in 1982. The stage production directed by Bill Alexander is currently playing at The Peacock Theatre, London, to sold-out audiences. Running for two hours it features just dance and music, and is aimed at three to nine year olds. 30.12.00

Paul Daniels popped up on Celebrity Ready, Steady, Cook (BBC1 27th), with Ainsley Harriott, and managed to get a couple of card tricks in! He declared: "I have never, in my life, been in a kitchen!" Derren Brown: Mind Control (Channel4, 27th) was a great success. For more on the show, and Derren Brown, visit the special Channel 4 website: Click Here. It was the finest 'MindMagic' type television production that I've ever seen. Devised and produced by Andrew O'Connor. Excellent. 30.12.00

We'll have a review of Heroes of Magic next week. MagicWeek now has links to 149 UK magicians' websites - who will be number 150? Magic has never been more popular in the UK than right now - David Blaine is in the video charts and his tape was playing in HMV when I went in last week. A video tape of a Magician doing card tricks being played in HMV during the week leading up to Christmas? - No one could have predicted that five years ago.  And Derren Brown's show could easily be sold all over the world... it's a great way to start the New Year... THE MAGIC IS BACK! Happy New Year to everyone, see you then, Duncan. 30.12.00
