Many congratulations to Mark Shortland on winning the Shield Competition on Thursday night at the British Ring Convention in Scarborough - Mark's a real 'one-off' and very funny. In second place: Hezi Dean, and third place, together with the manipulation award James Smith. Congratulations to them all. 15.9.01

In the close-up competition Sean Carpenter came first (many congratulations!) with Martin Cox second, and Steve Gore third. 15.9.01

Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee host Top Ten TV: Lovers on Channel 4 tonight (Saturday) at 9.15pm (1 hour 35 minutes). The first show in a new run of the nostalgia series sees Paul and Debbie in top form, acting as guides taking a closer look at the highs and lows of TV couples - from Jason and Kylie to the far more appealing Wayne and Waynetta Slob. Paul and Debbie have virtually re-invented themselves since the demise of their long running magic series on BBC1 by appearing in a broad range of programmes often without a single trick in sight. 15.9.01

Stephen Mulhern returns to Children's ITV on Monday September 24th with a fourth series of The Quick Trick Show. Ali Bongo, Pat Page and Marc Paul were consultants with Anthony Owen Producing. Andrew O'Connor, himself a former Young Magician of the Year winner, is the Executive Producer. 15.9.01

A major work, four years in the making, Card Zones - The Immaculate Card Magic of Jerry Sadowitz and Peter Duffie is now at the printers. It includes completely revised effects from many books including the early Alternative Card Magic and Contemporary Card Magic volumes published years ago. 256 pages, 118 effects, edited by Martin Breese and Bob Gill and illustrated by Roy Johnson and David Britland, large format, high quality paper, hardback. Sounds good to me. Advance publication orders at £30 plus p&p now being accepted from Martin Breese Magic. 15.9.01

Jon and Melanie Allen celebrate their first wedding anniversary this week. Also in the pipe-line look out for a number of new magic items, including the eagerly awaited and much talked about 'Card to Box.' 15.9.01
