Nottingham Guild of Magicians in association with Gedling Leisure present An Evening of Magic and Illusion starring Paul Daniels at the Bonnington Theatre, Arnold, Nottingham, on Sunday 18th September at 7.30pm. Manchester Circle of Magicians enjoyed a two hour Lecture by Derek Lever (photo) on the Magical World of Jack Hughes recently. Over 60 different props were shown all beautifully crafted by the late Jack Hughes, many of them now extremely rare. Around 120 members attended and Derek was rewarded with a two minute standing ovation in appreciation of all the hard work which had gone into the lecture. Mark Leveridge, Mick Hanzlik and Simon Lovell will be lecturing at Manchester Circle over the next three months. The Jumbo Auction takes place on Tuesday 25th October and the North West Close-up Championships on 15th November. Congratulations are due to member Darren McDonald (Dazzling Darren) who won second place in the Young Magician of the Year Competition. Andrew Green presents his lecture 'Behind the Red Curtain' at Bolton Magicians' Club at 8.30pm on Wednesday 10th August at the Cotton Tree, Prince Street, Bolton. Andrew will cover the development of a professional magic act drawing on his own experiences and theatrical background. His repertoire ranges from close-up magic through to stage illusions and he'll be demonstrating two manipulation routines during the lecture. Visiting magicians from other societies are welcome. Ian Kendall will be performing at the Official Fringe Opening party this Sunday in Edinburgh, ahead of his three week run with Ian Kendall's magic show. The Fringe party marks the true start of the Fringe, and each year the cream of the Fringe acts are invited to showcase their shows for the 6000 plus guests throughout the night. Following past magical performers such as Paul Daniels in 2003, Ian will be giving formal close-up shows during the early part of the night.
