Blackpool Magic Convention - updates: Michael Weber returns with a new lecture and will also take part in the "Magic Speed Dating", the Master Class and the International Close-up Show. Philip Hitchcock will present his prize winning Dove Act on the Saturday night Gala Show. Germany's Antje Pode will perform her sensational Foot Juggling Act on the Saturday night Gala Show and the Lasermen from France, along with Quick Change Act Natalie & Eli from Switzerland, will all add to a fantastic variety bill. Television producer Anthony Owen will present close-up magic and lecture, mentalist Colin McLeod together with Joe Monti, Simon Lovell, Mel Mellers (photo), Michael J. Fitch and Wayne Dobson will entertain in the "Wayne Dobson and Friends Show". Star Australian comedy magician, Phil Cass will make his Blackpool debut, appearing in a number of events. The "Kidz'R'Us" lectures will be run by the very capable Gary Dunn and Michael J. Fitch on the Sunday, and on the Saturday the very popular British Children's Entertainers National Championships will take place, with Colonel Custard compering and Puzzling Paul, Zoobee, Captain Calamity, David Tricks, Mr. Bananahead and Colin Dymond as invited competitors. 22nd, 23rd, 24th February. 'Help! My Supply Teacher is Magic' returns for second series to CBBC on Tuesday 15th January at 6.15pm with the new title 'Help! My Supply Teacher is Still Magic'. The first series was extremely popular and is currently repeating on BBC One. This fast paced, funny, jaw-dropping second series will see magicians go undercover into real school classrooms and try to convince the children they are real supply teachers. We'll see the kids shocked and amazed reactions as magical things start to happen in the classrooms right before their eyes. Happy New Year and Fáilte (Welcome), that’s the message from Michael Ford (right) Chairman of the New Irish World Heritage Centre in Manchester as he greets Mike Sharples, Secretary of The Order of The Magi. This brand new state of the art building will now be the meeting place for the society and is sited only a few hundred yards from the original centre. It is in an area where Irish settlers made their home many years ago just off Queens Road and now officially named “Irish Town Way”. Mike Sharples has more than a Magi interest in this project as he is employed by GBM in Manchester, a firm who specialise in large format printing and have been responsible for a considerable amount of signage used for the new premises. His work on this subject is currently on going. Magi members are currently being informed about their new home. South London Magic Society, updates... Mike Sullivan (President of the South London Magic Society) writes: I am pleased to announce a new meeting day and venue for the South London Magic Society. Over many years the SLMS have been meeting on the second Friday of every month at the United Church Hall, South Norwood. Due to a growing number of members finding Fridays a “work night” it was agreed to change the meeting date. We were also offered the use of a new premises, with an offer we could not refuse (a bar!). Therefore from Tuesday 5th February, the South London Magic Society will meet on the 1st Tuesday of every month at the South Norwood and Woodside Social Club, 12 Enmore Road, London SE25 5NQ (Map). If you have been to our old address, the new one is opposite the church. Not far at all.
