Magic history was made last Sunday at The Magic Circle in London as Leah Mae Devine was crowned 'The Magic Circle Young Magician of the Year 2015', and in doing so became the first female magician to win this prestigious title. Leah Mae was ably assisted by her younger sister Sara Jade in an act that combined full scale magic illusions such as the classic Assistant's Revenge and Jim Steinmeyer's Modern Art with an elegant Linking Ring routine performed in unison. The joint runners-up were Callum McClure and David Hardman and the competition was emceed by 2007 winner Ben Hart. The judges were Alan Astra, Michael Jordan, Laura London and David Tomkins. The Alan Shaxon Lecture presented by Steve Short and Scott Penrose. Tony Junior, NMC Secretary writes: Steve Short and Scott Penrose delighted the Newcastle Magic Circle with the presentation of the lecture based on their book. Steve started the evening with a very entertaining talk and accompanying slide and video clip show from Alan's life; including his magical influences, family life, and friendships with other iconic figures such as Robert Harbin. Some of the video footage of Alan in e.g. the David Nixon show were a real joy to watch. This was magic gold. Then, Scott, presented and explained a number of Alan's effects, including the classic 'Aerial Fishing', die-box and rabbit production, 'Confabulation', Alan's version of Robert Harbin's 'Captain's card trick', finally finishing with the ingenious card in whiskey bottle.
