Eric Jones (USA) will tour his lecture across the UK next May. Steve Gore writes: Regarded by his peers as one of magic’s rising stars, Eric Jones has made quite a name for himself in the world of magic. Armed with cunning sleight of hand and a charming personality, he will astound you with his digital dexterity. When Eric performs, cards fly, coins multiply and audiences cheer! An award winning performer, Eric’s magic has been showcased at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, and at NYC’s Monday Night Magic, the longest running magic show in New York. Eric has appeared on television in 13 countries. Eric's lecture will challenge you to look at your magic in a whole new light: discussing ways to make close-up effects play to large audiences; re-directing attention rather than misdirecting it and how to properly block/stage your performances to both conceal methods as well as optimise audience reactions. “After watching Eric do some of the most innovative, amazing card magic for an hour he told me he was a coin guy and then proved it....Eric Jones is the real deal!” Chris Kenner. Eric will be touring the UK from May 1st-9th. Book early! Email tours@stevegore.co.uk. 7.5.16

The Mark Leveridge Magic E-Video Newsletter. Mark Leveridge writes: The May edition of the half hour online video release is ready for your attention in exchange for a meagre amount of your cash! This time I provide details of one of my ring and string moves in the Teach In, Wrinkles offers you an excellent idea from Andy Stone for my colour changing deck routine Colour Confusion, and in It Could Only Happen Live I tell the tale of the time I turned up for a booking to find another magician already there ready to perform! I also go through the two children's effects that are featured this month in the Web Offer Bundle, take a look at Profit At The Party in Mark's Bookshelf which was the publication that set me off on the path to providing games at children's parties, and in 60 Seconds To Success, I consider the ever present question about how you decide what to charge for shows. You can gain access to all the above as a one off purchase, or you can subscribe for a year which brings the monthly cost of each issue down even further. The E-Video Newsletter has been going for many years and always provides an entertaining and helpful selection of content on the 1st of each month, so switch on to it now by going to www.markleveridge.co.uk. 7.5.16

The Three-volume set 'The Mentalism & Mind Reading Secrets of Repro Magic' compiled by Jonathan Royle is reviewed by Stuart Cassels this week: "On opening the parcel, I began to dive straight in to the first volume, eager to see what would be revealed, and I can honestly say I was not disappointed! I was presented with some amazing effects, ideas and methods, from masters of Mentalism, that sent my mind racing. In fact, at this point I decided that this trilogy of “books” formed a real Encyclopedia of Mentalism. Within minutes I had found ideas, full routines, and methods that I know will be used in the near future, along with practical, workable solutions to complete routines I had already started to develop..." Harry Lorayne's 90th Birthday Party. Paul Gordon writes: I've been a fan and friend of Harry Lorayne's for nearly forty years and have contributed tricks to his books and Apocalypse. So, it was a great honour to be invited by Steve Cohen to Harry's 90th birthday party in New York last Sunday. Attendees included Michael Vincent, David Regal, Jean-Jacques Sanvert, Jon Racherbaumer, Richard Kaufman, Joe Monti, David Roth and Wes James. Video tributes came in from David Copperfield, Mel Brooks, Alan Alda, Meir Yedid, Allan Ackerman, David Berglas, David Blaine and a host of other big names in magic. (Facebook friends of mine can see the photos and videos on my Facebook page.) Impromptu performances came from Michael Vincent, Jean-Jacques Sanvert and David Regal. Harry was in top form and visually touched by the event and he and I shared a hug and a tear. I then got to lead in the singing of Happy Birthday! The final surprise was a telegram from Barack Obama thanking Harry for his contribution to the American way. Wonderful! It was an incredible event and I'm proud to have been a part of it. 7.5.16
