Richard Jones 'The Power of Imagination' tour 2017. Coalition Talent in association with Roar Global present 'The Power of Imagination' Britain's Got Talent Winner Lance Corporal Richard Jones. From the producers: Richard Jones is a soldier and magician, and the winner of Britain's Got Talent 2016. With his captivating performances, Richard – born in 1990 in Leytonstone, East London – didn't just impress the BGT judges, he also stole the hearts of the nation. Richard was crowned the winner of BGT's 10th series in May 2016.

Richard, who grew up in Chigwell, Essex, comes from a service family. His grandparents, parents and brother have all had military or police careers, which inspired Richard to strive for a career in the army. Richard signed up aged 19. He underwent combat training and spent 12 months at the Royal Military School of Music, before joining the Parachute Regiment in Colchester, Essex. In September 2014, Richard transferred to The Household Cavalry. As part of The Band of The Household Cavalry, Richard has since performed at some of the UK's biggest parades and functions. Although Richard always enjoyed watching magic as a child, it wasn't until he joined the army that he took it up, performing in front of his colleagues.

In 2014, Richard was accepted into The Magic Circle, which is also where he met Fergus Anckorn, a veteran and Britain's oldest magician. Richard's first BGT audition aired on ITV on April 16 2016 with a consolidated audience of 12.5million watching at home, while his semi-final performance amazed the judges, with Simon Cowell calling him a "wizard" and Amanda Holden proclaiming it "the best magic trick in 10 years that we've seen on this show". Richard was joined by Fergus and The Band of The Household Cavalry for his stunning BGT final performance, which included a card trick focusing on Fergus' true and inspirational story. Richard became the first ever magician to win Britain's Got Talent.

Despite his win, Richard was soon back performing as a military musician. He was one of The Household Cavalry bandsmen, who performed in front of Her Majesty The Queen over the weekend of her official 90th birthday. Richard has recently been promoted to Member of The Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star, the most prestigious honour in The Magic Circle.

Richard Jones's one-hour ITV special 'Operation Magic' will be broadcast on April 15th. Keep up to date with Richard Jones via www.richardjonesmagic.co.uk.

Mario Morris is the "Merlin Magician of the Year" - awarded for the best performance of street magic in Carmarthen last weekend. Five Welsh magicians took part, performing in venues around the town centre as part of the annual Merlin Festival. "The standard of magic was incredibly high," according to organiser Nick Brunger. "When we checked the judges' score sheets at the end of the day just a few points separated the performers which made for a really close-run competition." With the event sponsors "very happy" with the response from the public it is now hoped that the Merlin Magician of the Year will now become an annual event. Mario Morris is the founder of the School of Busking UK and is a coach, trainer and public speaker. His next big stop will be in Las Vegas, where he will be the guest teacher and performer at Jeff McBride's Magic and Mystery School in Las Vegas. World Television Festival (WTF) to remove 'Magic' category from 2017 Awards. The 'Magic' category has been removed from a list of 6 competing TV 'Light Entertainment' programme categories at this year's WTF awards in Luxembourg (May 20th, 2017). In a press statement from the Festival organisers it was unclear exactly why the category had been removed, but the inference was that magic was considered more 'trick' than 'entertainment' and as such was no longer deemed a valid competitor. www.chronicle.lu. 1.4.17

The Magic of Tenerife. Mel Harvey writes: Just to say magic is alive and well in Tenerife. Last week I had the pleasure of catching Jane and Kerry who work as "Enchanted" at the Royal Sun Hotel in Los Gigantes. Their forty-five minute show was a mixture of dance and illusion, with some manipulation magic and audience participation thrown in for good measure. All done to pounding music from the charts, the show included a very convincing sword basket, sub trunk and an interesting twist on multiplying bottles. Jane and Kerry are originally from Liverpool but currently work most nights in the larger hotels all over the island. As you can see from the photo this reporting lark is hard work but somebody has to do it! Looking forward to meeting friends old and new at The Wessex Day of Magic on Sunday. 1.4.17
