John Archer in Tim Vine’s ‘Sunset Milk Idiot’ Tour. Bob Gill writes: John Archer has long been a friend, confidante, writer, TV cast member and, if that wasn’t enough, opener for that one-liner comic, borderline national treasure and four-time winner of The Funniest Joke At The Fringe: Tim Vine. In a full, midweek evening at Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre the pair romped through only the third showing of Tim Vine’s 60-date UK tour rejoicing in the title ‘Sunset Milk Idiot’. The first half of their punishing schedule already sees some good-sized theatres hanging out the Sold Out signs... To read Bob's full review of the show Click Here. Conjuring and Cocktails - Manchester. Join your host, Alexander Wells and special guest, Sylvia Sceptre, for a fantastical display of magic in the beautiful surroundings of The Fitzgerald, situated in the Northern Quarter, Manchester at 9pm Tuesday March 6th. Alexander Wells has developed a unique style of performance inspired by the romance of the Victorian and Edwardian eras and the physical comedy of the silent film stars. At the first of these monthly events, Alexander will perform a selection of his trademark routines incorporating new takes on classical wizardry, intertwined with comedy and a sorcerous whiff of sulphur. Sylvia Sceptre combines psychological artifice and impossible mind-reading with the eerie world of the Victorian séance. An incredible act which features fabulous theatrical demonstrations of mesmerism, magic and mediumship, this is as close as you will ever get to witnessing the uncanny thrills of the Golden Age of Spiritualism. Richard Pinner lectures for The Surrey Society of Magicians on Thursday, 22nd February. "Here is my big claim - This lecture will make you a better magician. It is my belief that part of the aim should be to make the children gasp in amazement during a magic show. Seems obvious dosen't it? Through practical examples (performing and teaching some tricks) I will discuss the small changes I have discovered that can make a massive difference. Your show will become more magical. I will also discuss changes I have made to stay relevant in the changing and diluted children’s birthday market, like my reinvention of the classic illusion pictured." Members are free and visiting magicians are welcome for a £10 entrance fee. The lecture takes place in East Horsley, Surrey at 8pm. For full details contact Adam Mosley info@surreymagic.org.uk. 17.2.18

Steve Gore's 'Lemon Squeezy' lecture, Leicester Magic Circle, Monday 19th February. "I've not seen Steve's lecture before so was interested as he clearly is a thinker. One look at the range of effects he has produced and marketed shows that he has creative solutions where everything is thought through to the last detail. He clearly performs what he creates, and develops with performance at the forefront of his mind. Steve's 'Lemon Squeezy' lecture began with some impossible looking routines performed with ease using his unique marked decks (GPS and Amnesia), then moved into a wide range of effects suitable for close-up, cabaret and kid's shows. These ranged from the a commercial 'Perfect Partners' routine ideal for weddings and couples, an ACAAN style routine with Koran decks, his brilliant 'The Casino Con', a sliding knot rope routine (that reminded me of Pavel), a rubber band challenge macro effect, a multi revelation 'Visions from Vegas' and my favourite of the evening, a devilishly simple Note in Balloon. Book Steve's lecture and you'll get a GPS evening - Great Practical and Smart - crammed full with something for all types of performers." John Gordon, Coventry Magic Circle. Steve Gore's 'Lemon Squeezy' lecture at the Leicester Magic Circle on Monday 19th February at 7.30pm. Guests welcome (£10 on the door) see www.theleicestermagiccircle.co.uk for details. 17.2.18
