The Grumbleweeds (James Brandon and Robin Colvill) presented their comedy lecture at The Order of The Magi earlier this week. It was a night of first class tuition from two professionals who have worked successfully in so many entertainment venues and also have a fine radio and television background. Their evening started with a short history of the original group, through to the present day. Timing of gags was explained in great detail, as were different approaches for different venues, and roles of straight man and ‘idiot’ duo acts. Methods of handling different types of audiences were discussed and putting a tag line on a joke where it wasn’t expected were included as some of the many aspects covered in this fascinating night. This really was a session of learning and the Q&A time afterwards, with so many wanting to know more, proved how valuable an evening it had been. I.B.M. British Ring President Brian Lead was one of the many guests attending and is seen here sandwiched between James and Robin. Geoffrey Newton PRO. 10.11.18
