The Magic Circle's Children's
Entertainer of the Year competition, and now in 2020 he's won
the Close-up competition. There's no stopping this guy! Edward dazzled
the judges at The Magic Circle's HQ on Monday with a routine (won't say
what, don't want to spoil it) that left one audience member virtually
speechless, and one competitor, Edward, the winner! Billy Reid
on top form was placed second and a cheeky James
Pritchard third. Congratulations to them all. Magic Circle members
watched the event in the theatre on the big screen or at home on the
small screen (Magic Circle evenings are now beamed live across the globe

The
Session Appreciation Award. The Session 2020 recently finished in
London. During the Sunday evening gala show, something unexpected
happened. Twice in the history of the convention a very special award
has been given out. The Session Appreciation Award. This year, it was
awarded to Wayne Dobson. Wayne was not only there to accept the award in
person, but the audience were treated to him performing an amazing and
hilarious card trick live on stage. Wayne received the biggest standing
ovation of the weekend, and it’s safe to say it was a very emotional

Davenports
Magic Shop - Announcement: It is with great regret that we need to
announce that Davenports Magic Shop in Charing Cross will be closing for
the final time on Thursday, 30th of January 2020.
This is due to the redevelopment of the Underground Arcade that we have
called home for some 36 years. We are looking for a new central London
location for our shop, but at present have not found anywhere that would
suit our needs.
We will continue with our mail-order web site, which has over 14,000
items available for shipping around the world, including the very latest
magic tricks, books, accessories, and videos.
We will also be developing our renowned magic classes, workshops and
courses for both adults and children, please see our web site for more
details of these, with the forthcoming dates and locations. Finally, we
would like to take this opportunity to thank our friends and customers
for your support over the years. We have had some wonderful times, met
some wonderful people, and are immensely grateful for your friendship.

Zabaletta October UK Lecture Tour now booking. Organiser Tony Junior writes:
A little about me, Tony Junior. I'm an entertainer of over 30 years and
currently Secretary of the Newcastle Magic Circle. For the past 7 years,
I have booked all of the club’s lectures and this February, have
organised a mini UK tour for French magician Olmac.
I have been personally asked to organise a UK tour for Argentinian
magician, Iñaki Zabaletta’s – which will take place between Monday 12th
October to Thursday 28th October, 2020.
Iñaki is doing a full tour of Europe this year (April till October)
before heading to China in November. He has already filmed with Penguin
Magic the Live Act and due to contractual reasons, at this moment, we
are not permitted to announce publicly his TV appearance that is to be
aired this year, but it is one to be proud of.
His lecture features a variety of material that Iñaki uses in all his
shows: cards, close-up, parlour and stage. Some may be familiar with his
effect called ‘The Game’, his take on the Three Shell Game.

Change of event at The Order of the Magi, Manchester for Wednesday 29th January. Mike Sharples writes: The Order of The Magi was due to hold an evening with Rich Marotta. Unfortunately Rich has cancelled this event due to a commitment overseas. We are extremely disappointed with this situation and apologise to all those who had booked tickets. But it's not all bad news! The good news is that Harry Robson has very kindly agreed to present his amazing lecture for us instead. This will be at the same location, date and time as Rich's lecture was planned. Harry Robson is a fantastic close-up performer who regularly works for famous clients, and can regularly be seen entertaining the VIPs, Players and Sponsors at Manchester Utd. He is also the inventor of numerous excellent magic effects.
