Oliver Graham (Magic Olly) Lecture

On Tuesday 6th March WAM were treated to a lecture from professional Magician and Family Entertainer Oliver Graham (Magic Olly).

Olly performed a varied selection of material straight out of his professional working repertoire opening with a comedy mic stand based on the silver scepter. Genius!!! So many of the professional magicians attending the lecture were all thinking the same thing, "why didn't I think of that?" and THAT was his opening effect.

After a bit of hat juggling and comedy banter, Olly settled down with some brilliant sleight of hand and close-up magic. Olly is a master with a deck of cards making the most difficult of sleights look so easy and shared with us his ambitious card routine incorporating a soon to be marketed cleverly gimmicked card box called "Alcatraz", followed by an impromptu stacked deck routine from a pack which started in new deck order, "Ranstacked". It wasn't all serious card sleights though and Olly performed and workshopped dice stacking (which had everyone trying during the interval) as well as a very funny thumb tie using magicians rope. Olly finished his lecture with his "BoomWhackers", plastic tubes of different colour and length when whacked on the head produce a sound. The "BoomWhackers" are great fun to watch, but surprisingly painful after a short time as most of our members found out.

Quite the professional, Olly played "Happy Birthday" on his head to thunderous applause. In all, a very varied and entertaining lecture with plenty of material to keep close-uppers, children's entertainers and cabaret performers of all levels very happy.

Highly recommended. www.olivergraham.co.uk
