The Magic Dealers Day - The Park Plaza Victoria Hotel, London

19th October

From the organisers: October is the most magical month – Halloween is coming and Christmas is on the horizon. The perfect time to drink hot chocolate, tell spook stories and perform some magic. But not just perform – to see the latest releases, hunt down rare books, and stock up on props and gimmicks for the season ahead – because it’s the month of the Magic Dealers Day!

The Magic Circle has run a very successful one day magic market under the name "Dealers Day" for many years. In addition to expanding the size of the event with more dealers than ever before, we’ve moved the renamed "Magic Dealers Day" to a new and more suitable home – the Park Plaza Victoria Hotel. Less than 200 yards from London's Victoria station, this four star venue is able to offer us our own floor with not only a dealers hall but also lecture space, cloakrooms and restrooms, and our own breakout space for refreshments and relaxing and trying out our magic.

With the new facilities we are bringing you more from the day: we’re scheduling a masterclass at lunchtime, we’ll have food and drink available so you can hang out in comfort with your friends to discuss your latest or upcoming purchases, and because we have more space in the dealers hall. We’ve now got for the first time puppets, bubble and balloon vendors, and even a bespoke tailor coming along, one who knows all about our suits’ sometimes unusual requirements. Full details of the vendors, lectures, special events and mystery guests (for now) will be on our Facebook page.

You don’t have to be a member of The Magic Circle to attend! Non-member tickets will be available on the door for just £10, and the event remains free to members of The Magic Circle and the Young Magicians Club (YMC free entry also includes one parent/guardian adult). The Magic Dealers Day, Saturday 19th October, from 10.30am to 5pm. The Victoria Park Plaza Hotel, 239 Vauxhall Bridge Road, London SW1V 1EQ (Map).

The Amazing Johnathan Documentary - Nationwide

November Dates

Ahead of its nationwide UK release on 22nd November 2019 (see local cinemas), Dogwoof have released a UK trailer for The Amazing Johnathan Documentary. Benjamin Berman’s acclaimed feature directorial debut starts as the story of The Amazing Johnathan, an extraordinary magician who built a career out of shock and deception in the 1980s, which transforms into a bizarre story about the unravelling of the documentarian.

After Johnathan is diagnosed with a terminal heart condition and given one year to live, he’s forced to retire his act. Cut to three years later: Johnathan is not dead, much to everyone’s amazement, and documentarian Ben Berman films the illusionist on an epic comeback tour. But as their mutual journey kicks off, Johnathan drops a bombshell that sends the film spiraling into uncertainty. Embracing this unforeseen obstacle, Ben delves deeper to determine what is truth and what is illusion. Built into the heart of this quick-witted and highly meta story is an indelible commentary on the process and ethics of making a documentary today. Issues of negotiation and access become the central threads that reveal, and further cloud, our understanding of this elusive protagonist.

A one night only Q&A with director Ben Berman and Louis Theroux will be broadcast in cinemas across the country on 19th November 2019.

Tickets available via: www.tajdfilm.co.uk.

Richard Jones: Escape 2020 - UK Tour

February Dates

From the promoters: "Richard Jones was the winner of Britain's Got Talent and is a British Army soldier as well as one of the world’s greatest magicians in The Magic Circle. Having recently had audiences on Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions completely captivated, Richard is extending his sell-out tour of the UK earlier this year. Therefore due to popularity, new dates in 2020 have been announced where the mesmerising Lance Corporal will confirm exactly what made him the stand out act to win Britain’s top talent show in 2016... And still the only magician to have won the show. After gasps of emotion shown on the ITV1 programme, much of the audience this month were reduced to tears when Richard paid tribute to his veteran mentor, Fergus Anckorn – a fellow magician who died last year before his 100th birthday. On his extended tour of Escape, Richard endeavours to break the boundaries of the mind with his ‘magic with meaning’, debuting a further twist on some of his newest, awe-inspiring magic. In heart-warming memory of Fergus, he will be recreating some of his dear friend’s most incredible tricks too - some of which the legendary soldier only ever taught Richard himself."

Blackpool Magic Convention

14th, 15th, 16th February 2020

The Convention Team write: The first of our major headliners at Blackpool 2020 will be the incredible Uri Geller! Because of the expected interest in this man's work, we're proud to announce that this will be the first ever 'Mega-Event' that will be presented at the convention. An event so huge that it can only be presented in The Opera House Theatre. This venue would be the only place that we could possibly consider using, so that we can give enough people the chance to attend. For over an hour Uri Geller will talk about his incredible life and work, that has kept him in the public eye for nearly 50 years. Following his talk, there will be a chance to ask Uri anything that you want, during a Q&A session. This is just the first of many, many surprises that we have in store for you next year during the February 2020 Blackpool Magic Convention. To book see www.blackpoolmagicconvention.com.

Derren Brown Showman - UK Tour

The all-new live show for 2020. Derren Brown returns to the stage with his brand-new live show in 2020. The multi award-winning master of mind control and psychological illusion, Derren Brown, is at his very best on stage. His one-man shows have received wide critical acclaim and more Olivier wins and nominations than any other in history. Now with his first brand new theatre show in five years, Derren Brown returns to astonish and amaze audiences up and down the country. The content of Showman remains a closely-guarded secret, but if you’ve seen him before, you know you’re in for a powerhouse treat. "All I can reveal is that the show will ultimately be about you, the audience member, because that’s what I find most interesting. There are places I’d like to take the audience where we haven’t been before. I always aim to have it deliver more than you’d expect. I’m excited to be at the starting point of that process. Getting it on the road will be my favourite part of the year." Derren Brown.

'Shaman & Showman' with Jeff McBride and Larry Hass

28th & 29th March

A brand-new two day conference. Jay Fortune writes: I'm pleased to announce 'Shaman & Showman', a brand-new two day conference sponsored by Magicseen happening on March 28th & 29th, 2020 in Blackpool. For the first time ever, Jeff McBride and Larry Hass will be presenting two unique one-day conferences exploring the healing art of meaningful magic. McBride's Mystery School have hosted events in Las Vegas for many years which I have long planned to bring a flavour of to magicians in the UK (namely the 'Magic & Medicine' and 'Magic & Meaning' conferences). Shaman & Showman is a two-day event.

Saturday 28th March, 10am-6pm: The Healing Power of Magic. Open to doctors, medical practitioners, therapists, healers, as well as magicians and magic practitioners. Learn how the art of magic can be used in therapeutic environments. With an intense focus on raising your magic—and your performances—to a whole new level.

Sunday 29th March, 10am-6pm: The Meaning of Magic. Magic is the art of Transformation. You will learn enough material to create a brand new show and, more importantly, you'll leave with a deeper, more refined appreciation for the power of your own magic, and how to tap into your best inner-magician.

Both dates are very limited as there will be group/individual learning with over £150 worth of free merchandise (different bundle each day). Plus, Early Bird tickets are now on sale at a reduced price. Each day is only £55, or just £99 for the entire weekend (until 31.12.19). We have secured a holistic training venue for the conference. Your ticket includes arrival drinks and buffet lunch. It's taken a lot of preparation over many years to make these events a reality and may never be repeated. If you want to spend a weekend with two of the greatest teachers in magic and explore how magic can be used for deeper connection, then please book your ticket today. Full details and venue information: www.jayfortune.co.uk/product-category/shaman-showman. If you've ever dreamed of attending the Las Vegas conferences and never made it, don't delay in booking your ticket today at a fraction of the cost and treat yourself to a sample of these magical experiences.

Northern Magic Summit - Harrogate

1st to 3rd May

Secretary Brian Lead writes: "When we’re sixty-four" may sound like a Beatles song title, but the NMC, founded 1956, will be celebrating another momentous birthday with a Northern Summit over the weekend of 1st to 3rd May next year. You can look forward to the well established blend of shows, lectures, workshops, dealers and an auction. So far we have lined up the Patrick Page Experience, President Roy Field’s ‘Magic by the Seaside’, an ‘All-Winners’ gala show and public children’s show, a celebrity interview and even a non-magical event to cater all tastes. The convention will open with a welcoming meal and cabaret and close with the now traditional ‘fringe’ session. Last year, the Northern returned to its spiritual home in Harrogate, and will once more be in residence at the Crown Hotel. The Northern Summit has earned the reputation of the friendliest convention in the calendar, so put those dates in your diary now and look out for further details on the website and in our Northern Lights magazine. www.northernmagiccircle.org.uk.

There are places I’d like to take the audience where we haven’t been before. I always aim to have it deliver more than you’d expect. I’m excited to be at the starting point of that process. Getting it on the road will be my favourite part of the year." Derren Brown.

Richard Jones: Escape 2020 - UK Tour

September Dates

September 9th – Hertfordshire – The Radlett Centre – 01923 859 291
September 12th – Eastbourne – Royal Hippodrome Theatre – 01323 802020
