Harbour Sleights - Aberdeen

Illusionists to conjure up cash for Aberdeen Lifeboats, Tivoli Theatre, Aberdeen, 30th August 2019. From the organisers: For one night only, Aberdeen Lifeboat and Aberdeen Magical Society bring you ‘Harbour Sleights’, the biggest magic show to come to Aberdeen in decades – and it’s all to raise funds for local lifeboats. The two-hour show at the city’s Tivoli Theatre on Friday 30th August will showcase the north-east’s top magicians and will comprise grand illusions, magic, sleight of hand, mind reading and escapology. Aberdeen Lifeboat 2nd coxswain/mechanic Cal Reed and illusionist Garry Seagraves got together to launch the event. Cal Reed said: “Making doves appear from RNLI welly boots is nothing to what these guys can do. People should come prepared to witness some quite incredible feats of magic – and all for such a good cause.” Garry Seagraves, president of Aberdeen Magical Society, added: “We can’t wait to step out onto the stage at the Tivoli this August. With such a variety of different styles of magic there really will be something for the whole family to enjoy – whether they are eight or 108! Aberdeen Magical Society has a proud tradition of supporting good causes in the north-east, and when Cal joined the society to further his passion for magic, it seemed obvious we should support Aberdeen Lifeboat.”

The Tivoli Theatre has its own place in the history of stage magic. One hundred years ago, in 1918, magician Chung Ling Soo performed his signature act at the Tivoli, catching a bullet fired from a gun, then dropping it from his mouth onto a plate. Sadly, he was killed just weeks later performing the same trick in London. Tickets, priced at £12 each, are on sale now at Aberdeen Box Office, Union Street, Aberdeen www.aberdeenperformingarts.com. Psycon - London

16th November

From the organisers: Psycon is a brand new convention that explores the esoteric threads that weave through many performance arts. It is not a magic convention but a convention that explores the magic within the arts. Cara Hamilton will be giving a fascinating talk about the origins of many themes that bizarre magicians (and others) use as part of their stage shows. Ashton Carter will be exploring how to create horror events with impact which will appeal to anyone with an interest in escape rooms, bizarre magic, the psychology of performance etc. Just two of our key speakers. Other key speakers include academic Nik Taylor, authors Penny Billington and Dodie Hamilton, bizarre magician and writer Paul Voodini and 'The Enigmaologist' Adam Daniel. Talks will be interspersed with some independent short films and a panel discussion, followed by some evening entertainment to round off the day. Lunch and tea/coffee are all included in the price, and on the Friday night participants have the option to join one of my 'Whitechapel Murder Trail' walks. A 2-hour walk exploring the 11 Whitechapel Victims, exploring FBI profiling techniques and with suitably themed magic en-route! The Session 2020

10th, 11th, 12th January

From the organisers: Our goal is always to deliver a stronger convention than the previous year, but this past year we heard more favorable comments than ever before. Mac King, our Guest of Honour, exceeded even the lofty expectations we had for him. But the pervading comment about The Session was about the venue: people were thrilled with the improvement of our host hotel, and we're delighted to announce that we will return to the Park Inn, Heathrow, London in 2020. We are yet to release our Guest of Honor and talent, but you can rest assured that the lineup is developing into something extremely stellar. Our biggest announcement is the convention is extending to an extra day. We are moving The Event, our mentalism convention, to September 2020, where it will become its own entity with our partner Luke Jermay. Now The Session will begin on Friday January 10th at 2pm, with shows and lectures all day long, all included in your registration. There's now more Session than ever to enjoy. Another night of jamming! For more info Click Here.

Blackpool Magic Convention

14th, 15th, 16th February 2020

The Convention Team write: The first of our major headliners at Blackpool 2020 will be the incredible Uri Geller! Because of the expected interest in this man's work, we're proud to announce that this will be the first ever 'Mega-Event' that will be presented at the convention. An event so huge that it can only be presented in The Opera House Theatre. This venue would be the only place that we could possibly consider using, so that we can give enough people the chance to attend. For over an hour Uri Geller will talk about his incredible life and work, that has kept him in the public eye for nearly 50 years. Following his talk, there will be a chance to ask Uri anything that you want, during a Q&A session. This is just the first of many, many surprises that we have in store for you next year during the February 2020 Blackpool Magic Convention. To book see www.blackpoolmagicconvention.com.
