Keith Bennett, well known to many readers for his appearances at various conventions throughout the country, is preparing to open a brand new magic shop in Birmingham. Building work is in full swing and Keith hopes to have it in operation in about six weeks. It is situated just two miles from junction 2 on the M5 motorway. Best of luck with this new venture Keith. David Blaine (Monday Ch.4) stired up a mixed collection of emotions in magicians this week. Many can't see further than "I could do those tricks!" but that really isn't the point. You could also "tell those jokes" or "sing those songs" but that's not going to make you an Eddie Izzard or Madonna! Blaine has worked real wonders for the image of magic and brought it right up to date. We shouldn't underestimate the positive impact his TV shows have had, and are having, on the public's perception of "magic." There is a review of his second special: David Blaine - Magic Man in this issue. 2.9.00

Throughout the year The Magic Circle host evenings of magic called Meet The Magic Circle. Individuals, or groups of up to 120, can enjoy an evening at the Circle that includes refreshments, a talk on the history of Magic, close-up magicians performing table magic, and an evening show featuring three contrasting magicians. These evenings often sell out in advance. If you would like further information visit the Circle's website or telephone Diane O'Brien: 01322 221592. 2.9.00

A new range of magic tricks has come onto the market retailing at just 75p each. Pocko's Magic! is a selection of 16 pocket tricks including a few classics! I actually feel that this sort of product range is the life blood of magic and it's often a small magic trick that sparks an interest that lasts a lifetime. My first and only magic set was made by Merit and included the Ball Vase, the Chinese Wallet, a Coin Case and a wooden wand! Revolution Productions Ltd. Telephone 01203  641927. 2.9.00

In this issue: Just in from Andy Nyman a review of the David Britland book Chan Canasta - A Remarkable Man (see Reviews). MagicWeek now has an expanded Book Shop (in association with Amazon.co.uk) that features a selection of books, videos, and music of interest to magicians (see the button under Features). The new soundtrack to the Summer blockbuster Gladiator by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard is quite simply stunning. If you're an illusionist (and you're good enough!) then check out this album in: Book Shop/Music. I'd be very surprised if it didn't win an Oscar for 'Best Original Score' this year. Quite a few dates have been added to What's On this week, and the Wanted and For Sale private ads continue to be very popular... and free! We'd still like to have more news from individual magicians. Please keep MagicWeek informed, and don't forget that Mail Box welcomes your views on anything magical. Duncan Trillo. 2.9.00
