Number 11 - 9th September 2000

Fay Presto and friends once again present an alternative to the annual British Ring convention with a Fringe event staged nightly at the Wish Tower Restaurant, opposite the Lansdowne (the official HQ Hotel). With free admission, a fringe banquet planned for the Friday night, a nightly bar open to all until 1am, and planned performances from John Archer, Peter McCahon, Marc Paul, Richard Pinner, Fay Presto, Alfonso Rios, Mark Shortland, Mark Stafford & Lesley Young I'm sure it will all prove to be a very popular addition to the scheduled events. The News of the World will be running an exclusive story on Wayne Dobson, his family, and his mother in particular, this Sunday (12th September) that will REALLY surprise you all! Paul Kieve presented A Tribute to Doug Henning on Monday 4th September at The Magic Circle, London. The talk covered Henning's fascinating magic career from his first performances as a teenager through to his many successes as a world renowned magician both on stage and in television. Paul's research, combined with comprehensive and previously unseen television clips, resulted in a real insight into the life of this original, charismatic and most engaging performer. Interestingly, his first ever TV special was broadcast live, and was seen by an estimated audience of 50 million. 9.9.00

Although MagicWeek focuses on magic in the UK every so often I like to bend the rules (no committees here!) and this week would like to mention two excellent sites of interest to magicians world-wide. First of all Richard Robinson's amazing allmagic.com - the most comprehensive magic site on the web. If you've never seen the site pay them a visit at: http://allmagic.com. MagicWeek is listed in their  "Top Sites" category.

Magic & Illusion is the other site that I'd like to mention. They host the world's largest 'Magic Chat,' with Celebrity 'Magic Chats' every month, and transcripts of past 'chats.' They have easy-to-do magic tricks, a Magic Forum, links, articles, advice, and tips from Bryan Dean, the Magic & Illusion Guide, who is a professional magician from Pennsylvania. Visit them at: http://magic.about.com

Reader Jason Wood has an interesting suggestion. He'd like to see a Contact Page set up where UK magicians can display their contact details and magic interests so that others can get in touch with them. A notice board in effect that would include: Name, Email address, County, and then a short list of magic interests. This could be especially useful for magicians who don't belong to magic clubs - but would like to make contact with other local magicians, to meet up, exchange ideas, and visit conventions together etc... Unlike an Email "chat line" this would act as a permanent directory. I think it's an excellent idea. I If I get more than half a dozen Emails expressing an interest then I'll set up a page in MagicWeek straight away. 9.9.00
