Number 62 - 1st
September 2001
The Weekly News
led with "Wayne's World Fell Apart" on Saturday August 25th. The story
covered the many highs and lows in Wayne's professional and personal life,
from performing in front of the Queen at the London Palladium, to the day
he discovered that he had MS. The interview was very frank with Wayne
talking about his marriage break-up, his new love, what the future holds,
friends and family. "Life is like a hand of cards... it's up to you how
you play them." Wayne is currently very busy with a number of new
projects. More below.

Several names have
been added to the British Ring Convention line-up in September: Guy Bavli
(photo),
Bob Wooding, Rossignol, Kristalleon, Mike Cassidy, Richard Pinner, and
Mattlias Raunch. The line-up for this year's International Close-Up Show
is strong and includes the British Close-up Champions of 2000 and 2001,
Paul Wilson and Lee Davis. They are joined by Steve Walker and for the
first time at a British Ring Convention Carl Andrews and Lee Asher. A
'strolling magician' with a repertoire of strong commercial material best
describes Carl Andrews, while the card work of Lee Asher is mind-boggling.
Everyone at Eastbourne was full of praise for the work of Dominique
Duvivier - well he's back again with a completely new act - not to be
missed! There are reductions for under 18's, a full registration is £45.00
with day registrations being available at £15.00. The day registration for
Saturday, including a first house Gala seat, is £25.00. Richard Stupple is
again coordinating a special Junior Workshop on the Saturday and hopes to
build on the success of last year's venture. Mandy Davis is actively
engaged in arranging a panel of tutors selected to enhance the junior's
basic skills. The British Ring of
the International Brotherhood of Magicians 65th Annual Convention,
Scarborough, September 11th - 16th £60 for members £75 for non-members.

Marc Salem appeared on
BBC1's Live and Kicking on Saturday morning and proceeded to read
the minds of a group of ten year olds who surrounded him. He then went on
to appear in a head-to-head quiz and seemed to know all the
answers to all the questions - to the point where the studio audience were
convinced that he was reading the questionairs mind! I'd never seen Marc's
work before and really liked his manner, that clearly works well with UK
audiences. 1.9.01 |
