Number 92 - 30th March 2002
Tom
Owen, joint Blackpool convention organiser for many years, (seen here on the
right with Malta's Vanni Pule`) has given a record number of annual lectures to
members of I.B.M Ring 202 in Valletta, Malta. This year, after a lunch in his
honour, Vanni Pule`, President and Territorial Vice President of the Ring,
presented Tom with this Cups and Balls painting in acrylics and aluminium and
copper foil - the Cups and Balls being Tom's favourite trick. Magician Vanni Pule` is also an
artist with most of his paintings having magic themes. He also collects original
works of Art by other artists that have a magical content. Tom's lecture was
full of practical advice aimed mostly at the close-up and corporate magician,
all presented in a most entertaining way. Every year new members of Ring 202
appreciate his freshness and ability, always discovering something new. This
year Tom celebrates his 51st year in Magic.

successive victim. Starring: Ben Johnson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Hart Bochner
and David

14
year old magician Steve Dela won the Geoff Ray Stage Cup at the
Shropshire Magical Society's annual stage competition last month. He also won
the best newcomer award, although he is no newcomer to the world of magic,
performing his first trick when he was just 4 years old! Steve performed the
Linking Rings and Knife through Mirror, and then some dove productions substituting
bananas for real doves! Plus some card manipulations and an appearing Raccoon
for good measure. I'm sure we'll be seeing more from Steve in the future (let's
hope Steve never drops any "doves").
