Basingstoke Festival of Magic takes place tomorrow (Sunday 25th April)
and features the 10th Close-up Championship of Southern England
competition (for the Alan McGurk Trophy); lecturers from Nick Einhorn

Irish IBM Ring 85 Convention is just a week away! The convention take
place at the perfect venue, the

The Scottish Association
of Magical Societies Convention is also just a week away and takes
place in Montrose from April 30th to May 2nd.
Featuring a Civic Welcome, an informal show, 3 competitions, lectures by
Noel Britten, Richard McDougall, Alan Maskell and Quentin Reynolds,
close-up, 5 dealers, a ladies event, and a Gala Show with Alan Maskell,
Noel Britten, Paul Dabek, Richard McDougall, Roy Davenport,
Quentin Reynolds and Van Buren & Company. Weekend registration is £33 for
members of affiliated clubs and their partners, and £40 for non-members.
There are also rates for the Saturday or Sunday only, and for juniors.

Paul
Alberstat visits the UK in May for a short lecture tour taking in the
Leicester Magic Circle, the Medway Magical Society, the Newcastle Magic
Circle and the Edinburgh Magic Circle. Recently described as "The World's
Greatest Mind Reader" by Hong Kong's largest newspaper following a
performance in Hong Kong, Paul's lecture is expected to include an
introduction to "mind reading" along with a variety of effects suitable
for magicians of all levels and interests. Paul has been a professional
mentalist for over 10 years and performs at trade shows, company functions
and private parties.

Stuart
and Jayne Loughland (Safire Illusionists) recently performed with
Peter Kay at the Blackpool Opera House to sell out audiences of over 3,000
people per night. The couple are now set to tour again with the Ken Dodd
Laughter Show (Weston Super Mare, April 27th) before embarking on a 17 day
Cruise for P&O aboard the Adonia (Web

Andrew
Lee is currently filming a brand new magic series called Back to
the Street's Magic for York TV. Eight 30 minute shows are being shot
in and around the city of York. Michael Shepard's Castle Magical

Powerbook); police think it will be sold on in the Birmingham or Coventry
area. It is password protected but has a lot of his illusion designs and
