BBC
TV in the South West are looking for magicians from the region for a
new documentary. They'd like to hear from readers who have jobs by day and
become magicians by night (or over the weekend), but they are looking for
applicants who can offer a real twist. Chris Cox from the BBC emails "for
example, they do post mortems by day and saw women in half by night, or
have an exceptional contrast. At day they work as a bin man, at night
they entertain and amaze." If you think you fit the bill then get in touch
as soon as possible. Email Chris Cox:

This
month Manchester based magician Ian Ball succeeded in becoming a member
of The Magic Circle. Ian says he joined because he was getting tired of
fielding the question "Are you in The Magic Circle?" whilst performing
close-up, yet within a week his new found status had already paid off as
he secured a booking at the prestigious
Manchester
Bridgewater Hall for New Year's Eve. Ian said "This has been an
ambition of mine for quite a while now. To be vetted by your peers is
daunting, but when those peers are members of the best known magical
society in the world, The Magic Circle, it's a hundred times worse." Ian Ball:

Did
You Spot the Gorilla?: How to Recognise the Hidden Opportunities in
Your Life by bestselling author (and magician) Richard Wiseman has
just been published by Arrow Books. "In a recent series of ground-breaking
psychological experiments, volunteers were shown a 30-second film of some
people playing basketball and told to count the number of passes made with
the ball. After just a few seconds, a man dressed as a gorilla slowly
walked into frame, beat his chest at the camera, and sauntered off.
Unbelievably, almost none of the people watching the film noticed the
gorilla. Exactly the same psychological mechanisms that cause people to
miss the gorilla also make them miss unexpected but vitally important
opportunities in their professional and personal lives. This book outlines
the scientific evidence and thinking behind this remarkable new
phenomenon, and shows you how you can spot gorillas in your life - and
what to do when you see one." Funnily enough I spotted a Gorilla just a
few days ago, but that's another story... I've just had a quick dip into
this book and it is full of goodies, especially of interest to 'mind
magic' type performers. Available from
www.amazon.co.uk (Look out for Richard in the new Volvo ads). 16.10.04 |
