Number 313 - 24th June 2006
The
International Brotherhood of Magicians is the world's largest
organisation for magicians, boasting nearly 13,000 members worldwide.
These members are divided into "Rings" and in the UK we have the "The
British Ring" of the organisation (Ring number 25). So when your hear a UK
based magician referring to the upcoming "IBM" convention or the "British
Ring" convention, or, by location, "The Eastbourne Convention" (the annual
UK convention will be held in Eastbourne this year) you'll know that they
are referring to one and the same event -
The British Ring Convention, Eastbourne, September 19th
- 24th. You don't need to be a member to attend the convention, but if
you'd like to apply to join The British Ring of The International
Brotherhood of Magicians visit
www.britishring.org.uk or to join The International Brotherhood of
Magicians visit
www.magician.org. Members of either the main IBM or British Ring of
the IBM receive monthly magazines. The organisation as a whole does a lot
for magic and was founded in 1922 by Len Vintus, Gene Gordon and Don
Rogers. This year's convention is The British Ring's 70th, and plans are
underway to make it their best ever. Over the next few weeks we'll be
focusing on various sections of the convention, starting this week with
Children's Showtime. 24.6.06 |

Let Me Entertain You. Lion Television have just started production
on a new family entertainment series for BBC2, hosted by Brian Conley. The
idea of the show is that different types of talented people will entertain
the studio audience and nation watching at home, who will be able to
instantly vote for their favourites. The show will differ from the current
spate of talent shows as they want it to be "refreshing, light-hearted and
positive." For more information and an application form contact: Danielle
Thornton, Researcher, Let Me Entertain You, Lion Television telephone: 020

David Redfearn asks... "I went to see Luciano Pavarotti in concert
last week, it was a great concert but he doesn’t like you joining in. OK,
it’s an old gag, but do I have a right to join in and perform at another
performer's show, what are your feelings on this? While you contemplate
this I will give you an example..." To read David's article
