close-up magician Alex Moffat: "This DVD features some of Alex’s most
prized routines and moves - material he’s been performing commercially

including S4hades of Dobson (a superb four coin matrix routine),
Reboxed (an instant vanish of the complete deck which re-appears
immediately inside the card case) and Alex’s Mofusion - which is
probably the best ever version of the fused signed card plot. Best of

It
really is magic! "Ian Kendall’s new show looks back to the magic
tricks of yesteryear, before camera tricks and TV magic, between 1850

are mixed with Kendall’s humour and anecdotes about the men who made
them famous..." To read the full review by Kathryn Mack in Broadway

Magical Upbringing: Collected Letters and Articles of June Barrows
Mussey. "June Barrows Mussey aka Henry Hay was a remarkable man.
Imagine, a boy of 14 going on an international magic tour all by
himself; corresponding with one of the greatest magicians of all time,
T. Nelson Downs; later becoming friends and business partner with the
great John Mulholland; translating books into German although German was
not his native language; translating books from seven other languages
(truly a genius with languages); starting his own publishing business;
writing one of the most read and respected magic books; and being
considered a brilliant ad copy writer during his later years. This work
brings Henry Hay, the person, closer through his letters, early
articles, unpublished photos, and articles about him." Visit

Blackpool
& Fylde Mystics. Alan Mylecraine emails: "After a number of
discussions we are pleased to announce the re-formation of the Blackpool
& Fylde Mystics. This magical society was originally established in
1958, so it is therefore fitting that it is re-formed in this, the
society's 50th Anniversary year. The first meeting was held on Tuesday
5th August 2008 in Cleveleys, Lancashire and was attended by 7 people,
including one of the original founder members, Ken Ashburn. It was
agreed at the outset that both Ken Ashburn and Laurie Gleeson, one of
the other founder members, should be made Honorary Life Members in
recognition of their involvement in forming the society all those years
ago. In preliminary discussions it was agreed that the main aim of the
Society would be the performance of magic. With a full programme of
events compiled for the next twelve months it is hoped that the society
will begin to grow with other like minded magicians joining. We would
also like to dispel any myths that this is a breakaway society from
other clubs. This is not the case and members are actively encouraged to
be members of other societies, firmly believing in “Friendship Through
the Art of Magic”. Membership is open to all practicing magicians who
wish to perform and share their magical experiences with a small group
of fellow enthusiasts. Meetings are held at 8pm on the first Tuesday of
each month at the Frank Townend Community Centre in Cleveleys." For more

Derek McFaull. Bob Hayden, Public Relations Officer for the British
Ring emails: It is with much sadness that we have to report the sudden
death of our President, Ring Chaplain and Chief Welfare Officer Derek
McFaull on Monday 4th August. His passing leaves a massive void in the
British Ring, a Society to which Derek was so committed and leaves the
remaining Officers and Committee in total shock. As Chief Welfare
Officer since 2004,his devotion to the membership has been exemplary as
any member who has been sick, suffered an accident or who have found
themselves in distress will testify. He was the ultimate caring person.
Not only that, but as he has done every year since 1994, he had already
arranged the Hospital and Special Venue shows and these will go ahead
exactly as he had planned. The Organising Committee are now more than
ever determined to make Eastbourne 2008 the finest and most enjoyable
British Ring Convention ever making it a fitting tribute to Derek, who
was so looking forward to it as the climax of his Presidential year. To
his two children and their families and his two sisters we extend our
sincere condolences at this distressing time and assure them our
thoughts are constantly with them. The funeral will take place on Monday
18th August at 13.15 hours at St Mary’s Church in Calne Wiltshire. Derek
requested Family flowers only with any donations going to the British
Ring I.B.M. Welfare Fund. They can be sent care of the Funeral Directors
