Number 516 - 15th May 2010
David
Williamson will star at Shenanigans, The Irish Magic Convention
which will be held in association with IBM Ring 85 and The Society of
Irish Magicians, between 29th April and 1st May in Dublin next year.
From the organisers: "The word Shenanigans is defined by one online
dictionary as 'random adventures of an often silly nature' which pretty
much sums up the atmosphere at Irish Magic Conventions. The Irish have a
more colloquial term for it called 'craic', pronounced 'crack'. It is a
word used to portray a feeling of fun, happy times and great company.
But that still doesn't describe the atmosphere you will experience and
memories you will bring home from an Irish convention... 'The guys in Ireland treated me so unbelievably
kindly and were so hospitable during my stay. And I had such a blast at
their annual convention - it sticks out in my mind as one of the best,
ever! I would come back anytime!' Joshua Jay." Visit

Richard Special's recent lecture at the Harrogate Society of
Magicians was very well received, with President James Ward writing:
"Coming from a working professional, your material - which was
practical, easy to understand and simple to perform - was worth its
weight in gold, as was your advice on presentation and approach, which I
know our members found very useful. The fact that you use material from
your working repertoire makes your lecture of particular benefit to the
professional magician. However, because it is entertaining and easy to
perform, it is also of great value to part-time hobbyists, who often
make up the bulk of a magic club's membership. Either way, no one could
fail to benefit from advice that can only be gleaned from years of
working, as you do, in a real-life environment. Thank you again for a
very entertaining evening." For booking information contact Richard

Magi
Magic! When Past President of The Order of The Magi Nick Barnes was
asked to help a charity night for a school that a friend’s disabled
daughter attended, he was only too pleased to offer his services as a
close up magician. The event was held last weekend at the Hallmark Hotel
in Wilmslow in aid of Park Lane and Valley Special School. The only
thing was at almost the last minute Nick was informed that 30 tables of
10 had been sold which made it a bit of a problem to get round in the
time allotted, even for someone with Nick’s award winning skills! Being
the popular lad that he is Nick soon rounded up some of his fellow
members and provided a great night to the guests at this Gala Ball.
There was a special appearance of Graham Hawley (Corrie’s John Stape)
who thoroughly enjoyed the magic. The total income for the night
(including auction items) was £12,000 and Nick would like to thank The
Magi members for their support of this very worthwhile cause. The photo
shows members Simon Hobday, Nick Barnes, (actor) Graham Hawley, Alan
“Snaggers” Russell (current President of The Order of The Magi) members
Paul White, Geoff Radford, Dave Hutchinson and Barrie Horridge. The two
ladies at the front (L & R) are Ella Rowe and Ali Davies the event
organisers. Reported by Geoffrey Newton PRO. 15.5.10 |
