Marvin's Magic School opens at the 02! With almost all of the remaining summer dates pre-sold, over a hundred budding magician wannabes have attended Marvin's Magic School at the O2 last week. Adults, children and families learned new magic skills, with many performing at the end of the class. Co-founder Jay Fortune said "The feedback has been amazing. Many of the our participants are shy, yet by the end of the two hour secret workshop they are performing mind-blowing magic in front of an audience. We taught business people tricks they can use in meetings and presentations, and even had a tour guide join us to learn tricks to use on his various tours. People from all walks of life are coming for the experience, and we've also been able to point our younger magicians to apply for a new magic show coming soon to TV." The Cigarette and Trade Card Collection of the late Chris Pratt (former Secretary and Vice President of The Magic Circle) will form part of a Conjuring and Circus auction in London on Thursday 8th September. The cards, collected by Chris over many years, relate to magic, puzzles, hand shadows, optical illusions etc. and were lectured on by Chris at conventions in both England and America. The Event: For One Night Only! Magicseen Magazine presents 'The Event' featuring two different shows, back-to-back, on Saturday, August 20th at The Pocklington Arts Centre, near York: "Some of the world's most exciting magicians, mind-readers and illusionists are appearing for a special one night only show! World Magic Champion, Marc Oberon will be performing his incredible world championship-winning act. Also appearing is hilarious mind-reader Graham P. Jolley, who has performed all over the world with his side-splitting act. Top illusionist Shahid Malik will be performing his famous 'cardboard box' illusion which has been voted one of the fifty greatest magic tricks of all time by national TV viewers. Shahid says he will also be cutting a lady in half in a really unusual way! Sideshow Illusions at Sheffield Fayre, Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday, 28th and 29th August, 10.30am to 5.30pm, admission free, Norfolk Heritage Park, Sheffield S2 2PL (Map). Jon Marshall and the Sideshow Illusions’ team will be presenting three Sideshows at Sheffield Fayre 2011. Two being original 1950s shows, The Mummy, and The Living Half Lady together with the newly reconstructed Butterfly Girl that debuted at the Showzam festival in Blackpool in February this year. These shows, originated by showman, Jon Gresham in the 1950s and 60s are based on illusion principles that date back to Pepper, Tobin and Dr Lynn. 13.8.11

 

Scottish Conjurers' Association. It is with deep regret that I have to report that Hon Vice President Alan S Hodgson passed away peacefully at the Marie Curie Hospice Glasgow on Thursday 12th August.
