The
2012 Magic Trek. Sean Lobban writes: Here is the latest news on The 2012
Magic Trek. Nine Magicians, Children’s Entertainers and Magic Club members are
walking the entire route from Portsmouth to London, over 112 miles. They will
set off from Portsmouth & District Magic Circle on Wednesday 16th May and walk
over 22 miles to Bognor Regis. The next day they will walk from Bognor Regis to
Shoreham by Sea, a distance of 21 miles. Day Three will take them along the
seafront, through Brighton and up to The Associated Conjurers of East Sussex, in
Lewes, 15 miles. On Saturday, 19th May they go across The South Downs, leaving
Lewes to walk to East Grinstead. This will be a hilly 21 miles! Then on Sunday
they will walk from East Grinstead, through Croydon to finish at South Norwood,
home of the South London Magic Society, 22 miles. Their last day of walking will
be from South Norwood, through central London to The Magic Circle HQ, almost 11
miles. The Magic Trekkers walking the whole distance are Harold Straker, Rod
Newman, Glen Stone, Roy Charles, Nikki Stapleford, Andie Penn,
Sharon Lobban and Harvey the Seven Foot Rabbit (carrying Sean Lobban). Other
magicians are taking part for a day or two on the route. They are fundraising in
aid of Anthony Nolan, the charity that saves the lives of people with blood

Sunday
Night Live. Richard Leigh and Jay Fortune had two productions play to packed
houses last weekend. Jay's Magick and Mayhem Show, with guest support
from Wayne Fox, occupied the Late Night Magic slot at the Jermyn Street
Theatre in the West End on Friday 2nd March. The show is now being written for a
new performer to present in a 7 week run this summer. Sunday Night Live
was a sell-out at the Lost Theatre and featured Kev Orkian (currently on tour
with Paul Daniels), mentalist Matthew Stirling and the Shaolin Warriors, with
close-up magic from Mike Sullivan. The next Sunday Night Live is on June
3rd and already tickets are selling well. Booked so far: magician Edward Hilsum,
speciality speed-painting act Jen Allen and top comedian Paul Eastwood. Another

Order of the Magi's
final lecture of the current session on Tuesday 13th March is "Ramblings
from a suspender….of disbelief" from Steve Gore. This has been very well
received by a number of magic societies including Blackpool Magicians' Club,

South Downs Magicians held their annual close-up competition on Wednesday
7th March with eight performers taking part in front of an audience of members
and invited guests. The winner was Peter Atkinson who produced an impressive
display of coin productions from a purse frame and a series of coin matrix
routines with accompanying patter about the "gregarious" nature of coins. More

The
Nottingham Guild of Magicians are pleased to announce Roy Bond as the winner
of their recent 'Card Magician of The Year Competition'. The event was an open
evening which was well attended by contestants and spectators alike. Ten members
entered and were given 10 to 12 minutes each in which to wow the judges (made up
of magicians and lay people). Marks were given for presentation, technique and
entertainment value and marks were deducted for over-running. Roy secured the
top spot with a mixture of card magic involving mind reading, prediction and a
fantastic finish with an Omni Deck that had the audience gasping in
astonishment. He received the Bertram Millidge award for card magic from Guild
president Graham Harper and thanks went to Andrew Morrison, Dawn, Charlie, Clive
and other committee members for organising such a well run event.
