Number 612 - 17th March 2012
Magic's
moment. "At Stella McCartney’s London Fashion Week evening wear
presentation, the model, presenter and fashion plate Alexa Chung was hypnotised
and levitated until she was hovering three feet above ground on the tip of a
scimitar. She had volunteered to play magician’s assistant to the Dutch
illusionist Hans Klok, an Eighties throwback with Boris Johnson hair and the
swaggering air of a young David Hasselhoff. Hans stared deep into Alexa’s eyes,
clicked his fingers and raised her up, as guests, including Anna Wintour and
Rihanna, looked on, agog..." To read the full story in the London Evening

Believe
it or not. "Prophecies, levitation, fortune-telling – nothing is too
extraordinary for the Society for Investigating the Credibility of Extraordinary
Claims. Sandra Aquilina meets its chairman and secretary-general. 'I know the
rules of deception,' says Vanni Pulé. Malta’s most famous magician gives me a
knowing smile. Sitting on the sofa in his living room, stroking his beautiful
cat, he rather looks the part too. 'Life is prosaic – but we want the magic.'
That is why he is particularly well-suited to heading the Society for
Investigating the Credibility of Extraordinary Claims (SICEC)..." To read the

Sean
Haydon in New Zealand... When I heard there would be a Brit magician/comic
performing at our main comedy club in Auckland, I couldn’t resist the temptation
to go along and see what this big-haired chap had to offer Kiwis. Well, let me
tell you – I was very very pleasantly surprised... He may resemble the better
known British comedian Russell Brand, but thankfully Heydon used a slightly
toned down language – which I noticed amongst the rest of the audience was a
breath of fresh air. His observations were witty and original, whilst his
combination of clever magic acts was a refreshing change to the usual comedy
performances. Heydon is obviously a professional magician by trade, yet his
ability to throw out some excellent jokes and interact with the audience so much
that he had us roaring with laughter was simply excellent. This is without doubt
someone to watch on the international stand up circuit. Amber Harris, Freelance
Journalist. Sean writes: "Whilst on a recent trip to NZ, I was asked to perform
at one of the top spots in the country's largest and longest running Comedy Club
(The Classic Comedy Club in Auckland). I was there on holiday so had no props
with me but after a trip round the local hardware stores (and a fancy dress
shop!) this is what I came up with:

Magicians
Wanted for magic opportunity at the Olympic Stadium. Ashna Patel, (www.goldchallenge.org)
writes: I work for the Gold Challenge, the UK’s first Olympic and Paralympic
sport based charity challenge. We will be hosting a key test event in the
Olympic Stadium for 20,000 on Sunday 1st April, 2012, offering members of the
public a once in a lifetime opportunity to run 100m in the Olympic Stadium
watched by friends, family and a cheering crowd. A key part of the event will
also be a parade of 4,000 people around the Olympic track. The parade will
mirror the opening ceremony and will incorporate members of the public,
celebrity ambassadors and Team GB legends, but the majority will be children
from schools nationwide. While these 2,000 or so children are waiting to join
the parade we will need to keep them entertained and we were hoping that some
magicians could use their skills to entertain them. In return we will be able to
provide a complementary ticket per performer to the event. After the parade, you
will be able to attend the event and watch the celebrity races and a number of
different acts performing in the afternoon including Britain’s Got Talent
winners Spellbound and other musical acts yet to be announced to the
media. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via phone
or email. This is a fantastic opportunity to be one of the first in the Olympic
Stadium. I look forward to hearing from you. Ashna Patel. 020 7099 8895
