The International Magic Convention and London Festival of Magic. Noel Britten writes: Some dates for your diary! The International Magic Convention and London Festival of Magic will both be taking place this November. The Convention is responsible for introducing many of the present great names of magic to an English audience for the first time, over the last 41 years, and plans to keep that tradition alive this year too. Surprises are in store, together with some of the very best variety acts in the world, and true masters in the art of magic.

The Convention will be held at the Mermaid Conference Centre in the heart of London, offering wonderful facilities, from the evening of Friday 15th November to the evening of Sunday 17th November. A weekend of magical delights with Gala shows of both stage and close-up magic, lectures and seminars, the International Close Up Competition and the annual awarding of the David Berglas International Magic Award to a surprise recipient, and a star studded international line up.

In the 40th year of the Convention an extra five days of talks and performances were organised to complement the Convention, each day specialising in a particular niche area of magic. Although organised as a "one-off" the Festival had such positive feedback from those that attended that it was repeated last year and is returning again this year too! From the 11th to the 15th of November you'll have a great chance to spend extra time, not only with the star names of the Convention but also many other great performers brought in for the Festival. With tickets available from a single day to the whole week you have the chance to pick an itinerary to suit your particular interests and needs, and as always no events will clash - no difficult decisions between one lecturer or another - you will have the opportunity to see everything advertised. Finally we're delighted to announce the winner of the Competition held during last year's Convention as being Andy Lewis, who will receive free registration to all Festival and Convention events this year! Congratulations Andy! www.internationalmagic.com. 30.3.13

The Order of The Magi's Annual Dinner. Geoffrey Newton PRO writes: Not even the cold icy winds and snow that covered parts of the country prevented guests of honour The International President of The International Brotherhood of Magicians John Pye and his lady, Carol (picture) attending The Order of The Magi dinner last Saturday. They joined IBM British Ring President John ‘Sly’ Smith and his lady, June with 70 other guests who also braved the elements to settle down to an excellent 4 course meal at the New Irish World Heritage Centre in Manchester. After a very witty speech by John (Pye) it was cabaret time with Magi member Peter Moran introducing the amazing comedy juggling of Steve Royle and the very multi talented illusion act of Vizage. All were very well received by a most enthusiastic audience who then bopped away with “The Wizard of Oz” well into the night. It was a most enjoyable occasion with many of the party faithful there, along with a good number of new guests. You can keep up with the Magi’s activities on www.orderofthemagi.org.uk. 30.3.13

Virgin London Marathon. Dave Bonsall emails: "I will be attempting to run the Virgin London Marathon for charity in 3 weeks time. I had a major spinal operation 10 years ago where part of my spine was fused with titanium cages, bars, bolts and bone grafts, resulting in restricted movement in my lower back. After this I was told that I'd never be able to run properly again. But I have spent the last 10 years, rehabilitating myself, determined to get fit again. It's been a long and slow journey, but I'm now there and on track to be able to complete the marathon and finally prove the doctors wrong! Because of my military background, the charity I've chosen to run for is The Royal British Legion. I'm still quite short of my target amount, so am turning to my fellow magicians to ask if anyone who knows me would be kind enough to donate a small amount towards my cause. Any amount, no matter how small would be very much appreciated! The link to my Charity Page is: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/DaveBonsall. Thank you all in advance." 30.3.13
