Ricardo and MC Christian Lee: "Magic Night with Rubik cubes, blindfolds,

what you think of him. Mat Riccardo will join us with his dangerous knives and
brilliant table trick – the only performer who can remove a tablecloth from a

all fun and games? Think again. Piff the Magic Dragon tells Time Out
why his Chihuahua makes him go wah-wah" writes Ben Walters in Time
Out,

London, from October 15th - 27th,

has been nominated in the Hospital 100 list. Launched by The Hospital
Club in 2008, the h.Club 100 in association with the Guardian Culture
Professionals Network is a national search for the most innovative,
interesting and influential people in the UK’s creative and media
industries. It comprises 10 categories, including Theatre & Performance.
The Creative Entrepreneurs list is based on an application process
managed by the British Council. For all other categories, peer
nominations were scrutinised by panels of industry experts to produce
shortlists of 30; and the final 10 in each category will be determined
by a public vote from 7 October - 3 November. Last year over 15,000
votes were cast over a four week period and the likes of Adam Hills,
Grayson Perry, Sarah Burton, Paddy Considine, Zadie Smith, Thomas
Heatherwick, Jamal Edwards and Alt-J were recognised for their work. See

30th October Leamington & Warwick Magic Society

"We had Jan Logemann lecture here at Newcastle in June 2013. From
speaking to him I felt lucky that we got him as he was not doing that
many dates in the UK. Without beating about the bush Newcastle have had
some big names and some of the best magic lecturers in the world over
the years, but we have to say that Jan Logemann was one of the best
lectures we have ever seen, if not the best that I have seen for a long
time. Not only did he fool everyone (and I mean everyone) in the
room packed with some 40 odd magicians several times, but he had some
brilliant theory to share that made everyone think more about what they
are doing with their current material. We can't recommend this guy
enough, there is a reason that he won the FISM card category and I have
seen why, he may still be a bit of an unknown to many but don't miss out
on this guy, he will fool you badly!" Graeme Shaw, Newcastle Magic
Circle.

Peter
Antoniou - Comedium, Hen & Chickens Theatre Bar, London, 15th, 16th
and 17th November. "Award-winning ‘psychic’ comedian, Peter Antoniou,
returns to the Hen & Chickens this November with his brilliantly
successful 2013 Edinburgh show. Removed from all the showbiz trappings
this is an intimate show that is just the audience, Peter and the most
amazing and astounding demonstrations of mind reading you are ever
likely to see. Fondling frontal lobes and tickling funny bones, he’s
more accurate than a psychic and as funny as a stand-up. “Peter
Antoniou’s show ‘Comedium’, blending Derren Brown-esque mind reading
with a quick wit, is one that should be put on a pedestal away from his
competitors… not to be missed” – Broadway Baby. The Hen and
Chickens Theatre Bar, 109 St Pauls Road, London N1 2NA (Map)

The Bromsgrove Convention has crept up on us – it’s next weekend. Those who saw
Peter Turner at South Shields said he was fabulous - but if you really want to

contract and flights and accommodation to appear at the House of Illusion in
Salou, Spain. Peter Turner is also giving a lecture the next day (20th October)
alongside Harry Robson, Kieron Johnson, Lee Hathaway and Wayne Dobson. For

Portsmouth
Jumbo Day. Sean Lobban writes: There are just a few days left to
register for Fast Track tickets for The 2013 Portsmouth Jumbo Day on
Sunday 3rd November. The closing date is Tuesday 15th October. Fast
Track tickets are just £17.50 for adults and £9.00 for Under 16s. For
adults, this is a saving of £2.50 against paying on the day. And this
year, Fast Track admittance will be faster, so you will save time on the
day as well. Remember that Portsmouth Jumbo Day is the place to
turn your unwanted magic into cash! You can bring along your items and
find a table on a 'first come-first served' basis. Obviously, as a Fast
Track registrant, you will get first dibs of the vacant tables. If you
have a lot of items to sell, you could register as a Dealer. This
guarantees a table, allows early admittance, gets assistance with your
goods and costs £41.00 for two people. Remember that however you
register, your ticket gives you a full day of magic, with dealers,
workshops, lectures and Gala Show. For more information and online
registration, visit the website

The
worlds’ first ever Magic Hack. Kieron Kirkland writes: "Want to be
part of the worlds’ first ever Magic Hack? We’re bringing together a
group of the most talented magicians with some of the most inventive
technologists to see what’s possible when you mix magic and technology.
There’s so many exciting things happening in the world of technology,
whether that’s people using Raspberry Pis to send Teddy Bears into
orbit, or robots that let you pour beer with the power of your mind.
What happens when you mix the creativity of magicians with the
possibilities of technology? As part of Watershed and the University of
Bristol’s Magician in Residence programme (Click
Here), we are running the world’s first ever Magic Hack on Tuesday
12th and Wednesday 13th November at the Pervasive Media Studio in
Bristol. This two day event will design and prototype new approaches to
magic using digital technology. Because of the secretive nature of
magic, we’re curating a select group of amazing people to take part and
looking for some magicians. We can’t pay, but food and beer will be
provided. It’s a great opportunity to learn first hand from leading
technologists about what’s possible, and take away some skills. It’s a
world first, and obscenely exciting." Email

Southend
Sorcerers Magical Society. History was made not once but twice at the
Southend Sorcerers Magical Society on the 6th of October at their Close
Up Magic competition as not only was there a tie for the first time in
the club's history, but also one of the winners was performing nothing
but Close Up Escapology. Multiple World Record Holder and Escapologist
Stuart Burrell joined Lewis Clifton in sharing the top spot. "It is an
amazing honour to achieve a result like this" said Stuart. "The
competition was very tough, with only a single point in it and to do so
well with a routine featuring nothing but escapes is mind blowing. It
has been a long road but well worth the journey. I just wish there were
more people out there, at the club level, doing Escapology. After all,
if magic is about taking something ordinary and doing the extraordinary
with it, then what is more magical than escaping from something?"
