Richard Jones to guest star in Impossible. From the producers: Magic sensation Richard Jones will guest star in the return of smash hit West End show. Lance Corporal Richard Jones, the first ever magician to win Britain’s Got Talent, will guest star in the return of West End magic show Impossible at the Noël Coward Theatre from 8th July – 27th August. Impossible, the world’s greatest magic show, returns to London this summer, following its acclaimed West End season last year. The show features the world’s greatest illusionists including Josephine Lee, Sabine Van Diemen, Magical Bones, Jonathan Goodwin, Ben Hart and Chris Cox. Lance Corporal Richard Jones rose to stardom in this year’s Britain’s Got Talent, where he stunned the judges and audiences alike with his captivating performances. Richard didn’t just impress the judges, he also stole the hearts of the nation. After more than 2.5million people voted in the final, Richard was crowned the winner of BGT’s 10th series. The show's producer Jamie Hendry said “I’m delighted to welcome Richard Jones to Impossible as we return to the Noël Coward Theatre this summer. Having watched him wow the judges and audiences on Britain’s Got Talent, I knew he’d be a wonderful addition to our show and I’m delighted to make his dreams come true by casting him in a starring role in the West End!” Although Richard always enjoyed watching magic as a child, it wasn’t until he joined the army that he took it up, first performing in front of friends and family. After developing his act, Richard started putting on shows in front of his colleagues. Richard will now make his dreams come true by starring in the West End. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is now in previews at the Palace Theatre London, ahead of the official opening on 30th July. Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a new play by Jack Thorne. It is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is one play presented in two Parts, which are intended to be seen in order on the same day (matinee and evening) or on two consecutive evenings.

Jamie Harrison is the magic and illusion consultant. Recent credits include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Tomorrow for Brighton Festival, The Wheel and Peter Pan for the National Theatre of Scotland, Dragon for the Edinburgh International Festival, A Christmas Carol and The Cherry Orchard for the Dundee Rep Theatre, A Conversation with Carmel for the Barrowland Ballet and Pinocchio for the Royal Lyceum. Magicians at the Half Moon, Friday 24th June, Bishops Stortford. Andy Clockwise writes: Having missed two "Magicians at the Half Moon" shows regular compere and show producer Martin Cox is back at the helm on Friday 24th June with a super-packed show. Not only is Martin chomping at the bit to get back in the saddle and perform, he's got Oliver Tabor back by popular demand who not only produces his own West End Theatre Show, "West End Magic", represented the UK at the FISM World Magical Championships in 2012, but also performs extraordinary illusions with his bare hands. If that's not enough to tempt you along, Inner Magic Circle Gold Star Member Steve Price will be making up the team (how Martin persuades these guys to come down and perform is a mystery in itself). Steve is a globe trotting Cruise Magician who will be sharing his magical skill's with the Half Mooners for the first time. These nights are very popular and reserving a seat is advised (unless you're happy sitting at the back) by calling Martin on 01279 659562. Entry is £10, doors open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8pm at the Half Moon, 31 North Street, Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire CM23 2LD (Map) and the show kicks off at 8pm. 12 Time World Record Holding Escapologist and Stamina Strongman will be attempting to set two new, and quite unusual, World Records on the 2nd and 3rd of July at the Magic at the Barn event in Rochford. The two records are “Most Iron Bars bent in one minute” and “Most Frying pans Rolled in one minute”. Both require the performer to just use their hands, without additional mechanical assistance. Stuart Burrell is attempting these records to raise money to help Chelmsford Community Radio, a local community radio station run by volunteers, acquire a FM Transmitter. These records are in addition to attempting to better his personal best times and (and at least one World Record), for escaping from handcuffs, chains and straitjackets. Stuart said “For the last two years, I have been fortunate to set at least one World Record whenever I have performed at the Barn. That in itself is an amazing achievement but this time I am not just attempting Escapology, this time I am attempting to set new world records for strength, which, given the summer heat and the nature of the records, is just as vexing and challenging. I tried to set a strength record last year only to fail, due to exhaustion.”

Whilst Stuart will be performing outside, prior to the shows, inside, the event once again boasts a world class line up of performers, including, fresh from Britain's Got Talent Christian Lee, international illusionist Richard Griffin and the award-winning conjuring feats of Oliver Tabor. Tickets are available online at or via www.magicatthebarn.co.uk or through the ticket hotline on 01702 543242. Stuart added: “To be associated with an event like Magic at the Barn is a true honour and I am thrilled to once again have an opportunity to perform there and, hopefully, raise some funds for a worthy cause”.

The June Mark Leveridge Podcast. Free to listen to, the latest 30 minute broadcast from Mark Leveridge is packed with interesting and thought provoking comment and opinion. Some of the topics covered this month include a discussion on what it is that makes comedy funny and how we can make it work in our acts, Mark ponders on why it seems that more shows get booked at a distance from home rather than really locally (or maybe that's just him?!), he takes a look at ways that we can harness lay people's perceptions of our magic and turn them to our advantage, and he looks at why pro performers are often so slick at what they do, as well as how summer weather can affect our props and the way that we perform. This is the 42nd consecutive monthly podcast that Mark has released and you will find access to all of them, including the latest release, at www.markleveridge.co.uk/podcast.php, plus all of the more recent ones are available at www.markleveridge.podbean.com, where you can also sign up to 'follow' his podcasts and thus get each one automatically when it is released on the 1st of each month. With an average of over 500 downloads per episode, clearly it's something worth tuning in to! 18.6.16

Christian Magicians UK - a brand new organisation with thirty years history. Austin Siviter of Christian Magicians UK writes: Christian Magicians UK - a brand new organisation with thirty years history. The Fellowship of Christian Magicians UK - FCM(UK) began as a single step taken with The International Fellowship of Magicians (IFCM) based in America. Over the past thirty years the UK organisation has grown and changed direction many times but always with the same Christian ethos and the support of IFCM. However as a child grows and matures so do organisations and at the 29th annual conference of FCM(UK) earlier this year, a unanimous decision was taken to continue our journey as an independent organisation. All with the agreement and support of IFCM. So it was that at the beginning of May, Christian Magicians UK was born. This means we now have a new constitution relevant to our new status. This will be available to view on our website www.christianmagiciansuk.org in the very near future. Our independence does not preclude individual members of Christian Magicians UK being individual members of IFCM. Clearly this sort of change does not happen in a flash, even for magicians, therefore for the next few months we will be operating under two banners - FCM(UK) and Christian Magicians UK.

Christian Magicians UK is a group of Christian entertainers, who use their performing skills to spread the good news about Jesus Christ. The tricks and routines that are performed are either visual aids or simply used to attract and engage an audience. It is a very effective method of presenting the Gospel in a clear and memorable way. Each year we have a national conference (along with several regional events) which include lectures, hands on workshops and shows. Through these and our quarterly magazine we provide ideas to help members develop their magic and entertainment skills to enable them to share their faith through good magic. Our 2017 conference (13th to 17th February 2017) will be a rather special event, since it is our 30th but also our 1st as Christian Magicians UK. Membership is open to Christian magicians of all denominations, so take a look at our website www.christianmagiciansuk.org and find out some more.
