Max Maven has presented his mysteries in theaters and nightclubs around the world. He has starred in television shows in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North and South America. Orson Welles wrote that Max has "the most original mind in magic". He has been a consultant to most of the important names in modern magic, and an advisor for more than one hundred television shows. He has published about two thousand tricks, articles, and essays, and now he is very tired. As you’d expect, the emphasis will be on mentalism, but with ideas that can be applied to every type of magic. You’ll learn commercial, practical effects that will fool you first, and delight your audiences later. Kayla Drescher: The Magicians’ Podcast. In this episode host Richard Young chats to Los Angeles based performer Kayla Drescher who provides a fascinating insight into life as a gigging close-up magician in the USA. Kayla won a competition a few years ago where David Copperfield searched for the next great magician on a TV show and choose Kayla as the overall winner. He took her on a tour of his incredible warehouse and museum in Las Vegas and Kayla shares the story of that incredible experience here. Kayla is also one of the cast members of Champions of Magic and discusses her time with the show. Alan 'no mug' Hudson returns to discuss 'what's going on' and a competition is launched in association with Giggio to win a Gold Pass for this year's Blackpool Magic Convention. John Carey Lecture - Cambridge Pentacle Club, Tuesday, 8th January. Jake Ace Lecture - The Anglian Magic Society. From the organisers: The Anglian Magic Society has its next meeting on the 15th of January and we have a fantastic lecture by the talented young magician Jake Ace, ' Working with Children and Animals'. Jake covers his Children’s Show, as well as talking about techniques and motives for tricks, and ways to look for a different twist in effects and how to take your existing show and theme it for different times of the year. Jake's second half covers working with animals and in particular rabbits! Jake talks about training and handling techniques and different styles of productions for children and adult shows.
