London
Festival of Close-Up Magic. From the promoters: Nick Einhorn and Laura
London have both enjoyed sell out audiences and 5 star reviews, getting the
Festival of Close-Up Magic off to a flying start at the stunning Le Meridien
hotel in Piccadilly. Things are set to ramp up as we enjoy performances from
Will Houstoun, Michael Vincent, Dominick Zwolinski, and finish with a bang as
France's Got Talent star David Stone jets in on the 10th of August. It's a
unique opportunity to enjoy top class magic closer than ever before, and rub
shoulders with some of magic's top professionals. With only three rows of
audience, everyone gets a good view, and the opulent Oak Lounge of Le Meridien
with its stunning chandeliers is a wonderful place to enjoy magic. Don't miss
out as some artists are only there for one night. There's more magic before and
after the show too at Maskelyne & Cooke - London's only magic themed bar, with
resident magicians performing Wednesday / Thursday from 6.30pm - 10pm, and
Friday / Saturday 7.30pm - 11pm. Why not catch one of our upcoming shows, and
session with your friends in the bar afterwards. Thank you to all in the magic
community who have supported this festival. It's been great to see many familiar
faces. See

Mark
Leveridge Podcast July 2019. If you have never tried listening to one of the
monthly Mark Leveridge audio podcasts before, this month would be a good time to
jump in, because for July Mark is offering one of his annual Podcast Gold
compilations. This consists of half a dozen of his favourite topics selected
from the last 12 months worth of podcasts: Mark discusses whether social
media ever really delivers in terms of creating actual bookings or whether we
are simply deluding ourselves : Cancellation clauses in performance contracts
can cause more problems than they solve : Do you feel a bit uncomfortable
performing for people who know you very well, such as family and friends? Mark
looks at why this might be : When creating new magic, should you start with the
effect or the method? : Is getting to the magic 'moment' as quickly as possible,
always the right way to go? : Online booking agencies make for lazy enquiries
and encourage potentially unfair price comparisons. The 30 minute podcast is
available free to listen to online or to download to any mp3 player from either
www.markleveridge.co.uk/podcast.php or
www.markleveridge.podbean.com.

Birthday of The Order of The Magi. Geoffrey Newton PRO writes: Last week
'Chef de Cuisine,' President David Owen (right) and 'Sous Chef de Cuisine,'
Secretary Mike Sharples hosted a BBQ to celebrate the 110th Birthday of The
Order of The Magi. Held at their headquarters, The Irish World Heritage Centre
in Manchester, members and friends enjoyed a social evening of a good variety of
fayre, close-up magic, comedy and conviviality. Many visitors to the centre also
attended and, as magicians, we all know how much we prefer to perform to real
people! This Tuesday, 23rd July, The Magi continues its normal lecture
programme, with Andrew Normansell's Bizarre Bazaar night of spooky magic.

"Magic
is a great analogy for how we edit reality and form a story - and then mistake
that story for the truth," says psychological illusionist Derren Brown. In a
clever talk wrapped around a dazzling mind-reading performance, Brown explores
the seductive appeal of finding simple answers to life's complex and subtle
questions.

Magic Touch is currently planning a small tour of Peterborough
schools and groups to take place in 2020 (see
facebook.com/Magic-Touch, and write:
We aim to do one show a month, so slots are limited.
There will be a 30-40 minute magic show, plus a Q&A session afterwards.
The show is called 'Inclusion' with myself (JJ) and
Jonathon
Shaw performing
(Jonathon has cerebral palsy).
Our aim is to encourage and promote inclusion and positivity.
The show will be in sections and each trick has been carefully selected allowing
Jonathan to participate more
and have more of a part to play.
I did a similar tour about 9 years ago for Sense with Jimmy - who is both
deaf
and blind,
this obviously came with a different set of problems. Magic touch 'Inclusion' is sponsored by
Inclusion East
CIC. We are also currently crowdfunding to get a small group of disabled
guys to next year's Blackpool Convention; please help if you can:

The Cruise. Sailing the Mediterranean. "Magicians Jonny and Tricia prepare to unveil their risky new illusion to the
audience, but the pressure builds when things don't go to plan in the final
rehearsal. Junior officer Lauren works her first shift in charge of the bridge,
and with engineer husband Mike in the engine room keeping a close eye on the
ship's speed, she is keen to let him know who's boss. Front desk employee Emma
has the unenviable task of telling several passengers their suitcases have taken
a dip in the sea. Narrated by Hugh Bonneville." The Cruise (repeat) Thursday 25th July on ITV.
