The
Magic Circle Christmas Show 2019 is reviewed by Quentin Reynolds this
week: "The doors opening an hour before the main event give the
audience the opportunity to explore the building. In addition to
visiting the museum, there's the superb close-up magic of Richard
McDougall in the club room, while the Devant room hosts Dominick
Zwolinski's cons and scams at The Bunco Booth, and David Crofts'
masterful 160 balloons and cardistry (yes he's been doing it long before
the recent trend and as he has a family to feed makes it engaging and
entertaining). It's safe to say the audience have their money's worth
before they step into the theatre..." To read the full review

Paul
Pickford aiming for the double. Last year Paul Pickford was awarded
joint first in The Magic Circle Close-up Magician of the Year
Competition. It was the first time in the competition’s 50-year history
that a Midlands-based magician had achieved the accolade. Paul, who owns
and runs the Victorian Tearooms cafe in Moorland Walk, Cheadle, said he
was delighted. He is now set to compete at the Blackpool Magic
Convention in February in their international close-up magic
competition. Paul now plans to rebrand his café ‘The Magic Teapot’
filling it with magic themed merchandise, including props, trophies he
has won over the years and photographs of celebrity names from the magic
world that he has often shared a stage with.

Tony
Griffith 'At Home' Day, Bristol, 8th March. From the organisers: On
Sunday 8th March 2020 Tony Griffith will be holding one of his 'At
Homes' in his home in the village of Norton Malreward on the outskirts
of Bristol. Tony has been holding these very popular events on a regular
basis for the last 25 years. He has finally decided the At Home on the
8th March will the very last one he will be holding.
An At Home is a day long event for those looking for a more in depth
discussion and learning experience in various aspects of the magic art.
The day is geared to the interests of those attending and covers a wide
range of magic including close up magic, walk around magic, stand up
magic and presenting ‘magic talks’ for organisations looking for
Speakers. Also covered is personal organization. Tony’s At Home has been
described as a Masterclass by those attending previous such events and
takes advantage of Tony’s 30 years experience as a professional
magician.
As this is the final At Home Tony is holding, the specially reduced
registration for the day is only £25 - a bargain at the price and
includes coffee/biscuits on arrival, a sandwich lunch and tea/cake prior
to departure. The day runs from 10.30am to 5.30pm. Seating is very
limited in order to make it personal and worthwhile for those attending.
Early registration is essential. He has lectured throughout the UK,
Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.A. He has given over 100
performances at The Magic Castle, Hollywood where he has also lectured 5
times. He is a Gold Star Member of The Inner Magic Circle, and has
lectured there on 6 occasions. He is a regular Speaker/Performer for
those organisations looking for Speakers. For more details or to
register, email
