Laura
London, President’s Night, Hull Magicians’ Circle. Jon Marshall
writes: The brilliant Laura London will be performing and lecturing at
Hull Magicians’ Circle as the guest of our President, Eddie Dawes for
his President’s Night on Thursday, 20th February at 7.45pm at the
Sailmakers Arms, High Street, Hull HU1 1NQ (Map).
Visiting magicians are welcome at a fee of £5. Laura's interest in magic
began when she was only 10 years old and just one week after her 18th
birthday, she became the youngest female member of The Magic Circle, 16
years later, Laura is a member of The Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star.
Initially concentrating on a wide range of close-up magic, Laura now
focuses on cards, and her exceptional skills have taken her to the
Edinburgh Fringe in a show she devised and wrote herself 'Laura London:
Cheat', receiving 4 star reviews across the board. Laura's TV credits
include ITV1’s 'The Next Great Magician' and 'Penn and Teller: Fool Us',
'The Magic Party' for BBC NI, 'Children In Need' and 'Playing Tricks’.
"It has always been a joy to watch Laura work, her sleight-of-hand
skills and dexterous abilities are not only as natural as they could
possibly be, but also gracefully wonderful to watch. She is without out
a doubt, one of the finest playing-card-technicians that I have ever had
the pleasure to have sat at the card table with." Daniel Madison.
"Laura London is not just a fantastic magician, she is a worker. The
material she performs in her Cheat Act has been refined and audience
tested for many years, all over the world. Laura's done the hard part.
All you have to do is watch, listen and learn." Chad Long. Hull

Magic
Live, August 2nd–5th, 2020, Las Vegas. From the organisers: The
producers of Magic Live work year round to find new ways to surprise
you, to offer something unexpected, to create an environment for you to
share with new friends and old — and to send everyone home inspired. Not
your average convention... Yes, we book amazingly talented people, but
then we manage to get them to do things they normally don’t do at a
magic convention. Whether it’s sharing a personal moment during a
General Session or teaching the real work for the first time in a Focus
Session or performing a new piece onstage, close-up, or in one of our
special venues — these presenters and performers are willing to jump out
of their comfort zone to help build something special. For more

Paul
Voodini lecture 'A Spirit Among the Magicians' at the Calder Bookshop &
Theatre, London. From the organisers: On the evening of Friday 28th
February, Paul Voodini will be giving his all-new lecture 'A Spirit
Among the Magicians' at the Calder Bookshop & Theatre in London. Paul
has gained a reputation over the past decade in mentalism and bizarre
magic circles, and in 2019 he was honored to receive a lifetime
achievement award by the Psychic Entertainers Association in the USA. In
this all new lecture he recounts the rise of Spiritualism in the 1800s,
the tricks and dupes employed by fraudulent mediums of the time, and how
these tricksters gave birth to the branch of magic known as 'mentalism'.
This lecture is also interspersed with Paul's own amusing recollections
of working in the 'spook business', making this both an informative and
highly entertaining lecture! Details at

Magicseen
Issue 91 is out now! From the publishers: The March 2020 edition of
Magicseen, which heralds the start of the magazine's 16th year of
publication, is jam-packed with entertaining and instructive content.
The cover stars are 4MG, the young magicians who, following their
appearance on BGT, are now forging a unique 'Boy Band Of Magic' career.
We get to hear plenty about how the group was formed and their plans for
the future. Magic has always looked to use cutting edge science in its
methodology, and we talk to Tony Chapek and Keelan Leyser about how they
have embraced computer technology to create some stunningly visual
effects. Megan Knowles-Bacon appears in Magicseen for the first time in
a major article, and we talk to her about her rise to Vice President of
the Magic Circle and the hurdles she has had to overcome in order to get
there. Plus...Martin Haderer gives a reprise on the busy magic scene in
Austria, a full 14 years after he last did it (!), there's a review of
the Session from January, we learn about an important two day event
being staged in Blackpool by Jeff McBride and Larry Hass, chat to Kris
Sheppard about the way he juggles his graphic design job with his
passion for magic, and of course there are Masterclass tricks to learn,
product reviews to consider and more. You can get your copy now by way
of a 1 or 2 year download or printed copy sub, or just as an individual
issue, from
