Cards in a Bottle by Chris Harding. Chris Harding writes: The Cards in a Bottle is a version of what are widely referred to as "Impossible Bottles" - a bottle (usually glass) that contains fully functional everyday objects inside that are far too big to have conceivably passed through the neck of the bottle. The master and pioneer of the concept was the great Harry Eng and it is to him that myself and fellow "bottle makers" around the world owe a huge debt of gratitude for the concept and inspiration. "Eng's Bottles" as they are known, are now highly collectible items and are still, in my opinion, the finest pieces of impossible craftsmanship of the genre. My own "Cards in a Bottle" work is a bug that bit me in my early teens after reading about Harry Eng in a chapter of a magic book, in the late 90's. Each bottle I make takes many hours of patience and care, however I have come to find it extremely therapeutic work; almost a sense of escapism from the often high-energy lifestyle of performing, not to mention taking care of a wife, two children, three dogs and a cat! The 5th Karl Fulves Convention - online on Saturday 11th July - and you're invited! The Karl Fulves Convention, organised by Allan Brown, is set up to honour the greatest unsung genius and giant of card and close-up magic, Karl Fulves. This highly informal event is completely free and will take place this year at 3pm, on 11th July. This year it will be in the form of a Zoom online meeting due to virus restrictions. Everyone is welcome, but all attendees must be prepared to do at least one trick for the others from any Fulves publication; one that they can demonstrate online of course. If you would like a link to the Zoom meeting, email Allan at abrown.kfc@gmail.com. In addition to Thomas Ellis, Paul Ridgley and Jerry Mensfield there will be one or two surprise guests from America to celebrate the magic of Karl Fulves! The Professional Worker Series, Volume 5: Keeping Control - Mark Leveridge Magic. The Professional Worker Series is a selection of targeted and focused E-Books which offer professional, sound advice on a number of key magical areas. The E-Books are written in an easy to understand style which cuts out all the waffle and padding, and instead gets right to the core of each subject.

Volume 5 sets out to discover whether there is one key element that contributes more than any other to making a performer a success. The conclusion is that control is a factor that if properly harnessed can exert a huge influence on the life of any performing magician. With this in mind I examine the various ways in which control can be exerted to make a positive difference. For a full breakdown of the contents go to www.markleveridge.co.uk

Outcome - International Magic. This is capable of a variety of presentations, here is just an example: The performer places a prediction in full view, then mixes a small stack of cards with various instructions printed on each. A set of Alphabet cards are shown and also mixed. The spectator cuts the instruction cards and begins following their directions from the cut card. Dealing through the Alphabet Cards in a comical way (dictated by the instructions), the spectator is left holding one card. The prediction is revealed, however, initially it is seen to be incorrect. As an afterthought, the magician points out that the two letters make up the initials of someone famous (you can choose the person here), the prediction is turned over to reveal a picture of the famous person. Everything is left for thorough examination.

A great effect with many capabilities - predict the initials of your booker, the CEO of a company or the Bride and Groom at a wedding. Or simply carry around a few of the instruction cards and perform it with a borrowed deck, anytime, without any set up. "The best new card trick in years" Jerry Sadowitz. The Mark Leveridge June 2020 Podcast. If you haven't had a chance to catch up with the latest audio magic podcast from Mark Leveridge yet here's a reminder of the topics for June: The British Ring online ‘Nonvention’ seeks to fill the gap left by the cancellation of their regular event. Mark reflects on Lance Burton’s assertion that performing is like Groundhog Day – you keep repeating the same act until you get it perfect. Redundant phrases and useless messages – a round up of Mark's ‘favourites’. Will you be fooled by The Tube Of Wonder? Blogs are good to do as long as you know who you are writing for. The question is not whether a printed book is better than a digital one, surely it’s the quality of the content that counts. Mark's podcasts are free and are published on the 1st of every month, so if you have 30 minutes to spare you can listen online or download the June issue from either www.markleveridge.co.uk/podcast-archive, or www.markleveridge.podbean.com from where you can also sign up to be a follower and thus receive every new edition as soon as it is published. 20.6.20
