Castle Magic is one of the leading dealers in pre-owned and second-hand magic apparatus and books, often handling antique and vintage apparatus from around the world. Based in Great Britain, where a considerable amount of vintage magic equipment started life, we supply and ship items worldwide. We also purchase and exchange magic props, books and allied arts apparatus from individual items to complete acts. During 1997 we launched our Castle Premier Range of exclusive magic tricks for children and close-up entertainers.

During 2011 Castle Magical Services acquired the business and rights of the Bradford Magic Studio – a company set up and operated by Cliff Lount since 1949, making Bradford Magic Studios the 2nd oldest established magic company in the UK still trading. We will be remaking and supplying a number of its classic magic effects in the near future. We are also proud to announce that Workshop Thirteen, which produces Escapology and Bizarre Magic, will now also be part of the Castle Magic family. www.castlemagicalservices.co.uk.

The Borrowed Ring on Pencil - Mark Leveridge Magic. The Ring on Wand has for years been an effect that I have wanted to do, but I have never come across a method which I felt looked magical enough. The traditional idea of secretly threading the ring onto the wand and then holding it covered by the hand while a spectator takes both ends has always left me feeling dissatisfied as I felt there must be a better way of achieving the effect.

The plot is one I have returned to repeatedly over the years and now I have devised a handling which I feel gets over many of the weak points found in other routines. The breakthrough for me came when I decided to add the use of a handkerchief and to combine one or two moves not normally associated with the handling of finger rings, and the result is the routine offered here.

Although not particularly difficult, this will require practice to get it smooth. Done correctly the illusion of the ring penetrating on to the pencil is, I believe, very magical and surprising and worth the effort required to get the handling up to a good standard. This great routine is available either as a TricKlip Video Download if you learn best from video, or if you prefer written directions, then please select the Master E-Routine Download order button which will deliver the instructions via a PDF text file. The Mark Leveridge May Podcast. This month the Mark Leveridge podcast is slightly different. Normally Mark selects a number of different magic topics to chat about, but for May Mark has gone for a special theme. Given that COVID restrictions are now being loosened significantly in the UK, Mark has produced a podcast in which he discusses six different aspects of our magic lives which we might want to think about in anticipation of going back to performing live gigs on a commercial basis again. The comments and suggestions will help you to focus on the realities that performing after such a long lay off will present to all of us, and perhaps enable you to sort out some aspects which might otherwise have caught you by surprise. The May podcast lasts half an hour and is free to listen to online or to download. You can get access to it at www.markleveridge.co.uk/podcast-archive, or from www.markleveridge.podbean.com. Get yourself ready for performing again! 22.5.21
