The new deluxe edition of Robert-Houdin’s Memoirs is out today exclusively from CollectingMagicBooks.com. Robert-Houdin is affectionately referred to as “the father of modern magic” in gratitude of the many developments he made in the art of conjuring. He created many magic effects and pioneered the use of electricity, both for stage tricks and for more practical purposes. In this book, he describes his life, achievements and struggles with great story-telling and humour.

In this new definitive edition, Lacelles Wraxall’s 1859 translation is reproduced in full, along with his preface written for the British and American editions. It is the first British edition to be fully indexed and it also includes a new introduction. The hardback book has 353 pages, illustrated buckram boards, black card endpapers, head and tail bands and a dust jacket. It is £25 and is available to purchase today.

As a special offer, the first fifty orders of this book also receive a strictly limited reprint of Robert-Houdin's The Priory, The Home of Robert-Houdin, translated by Professor Hoffmann. Only 50 copies of these 14-page A5 booklets will be produced. Most of these have been snapped up during the pre-order but there are still some available.

The Mark Leveridge October Podcast. Mark's 30 minute monthly podcast is always worth a listen and for October he talks about the following. I’ve missed the funny things that spectators say at live gigs : magic at the drop of a hat is not for me : top performers can create an impression as much by HOW they perform as by WHAT they perform : Megan Swann’s rise to President of the Magic Circle should be more about her abilities than the fact she is the first female to hold the office : a life of writing is recognised : sleight of hand or self working? – a choice that can define our interest in magic : seeing magic through the eyes of my grandchildren. You can get free access either from www.markleveridge.co.uk/podcast-archive, or from www.markleveridge.podbean.com where you can also sign up to be a follower and receive each new edition automatically. 23.10.21
