Nick
Nickolas has been writing about his life as a street performer and
magician at
www.devillemagic.net/category/nick-nickolas - well worth reading
through if you love tales from the street. I first met Nick when he came
to perform in Covent Garden in the early 80s. He had it from the get-go.
DT.
"Eyes as wide as dinner plates I stared
at the steadfast, muscular, rugged man as he bent an iron bar over his
arm. Then I winced as he cracked a steel chain like a whip, the sonic
echo bouncing off the walls of The Tower of London which loomed behind
me. My father handed me some coins, after more feats of strength were
demonstrated by gypsy strongman Johnny Eagle. I placed the money in
Johnny’s tattered hat. This was the first street show I ever saw, little
was I to know that many years later I would take on the same trade
myself..." Continue at

Cosmic
Pancakes! Kev and Amy seek to understand a shared interest in
hypnosis, and make connections with likeminded hypno-illuminati-types.
Kev is a hacker, magician and hypnotist. He worked with Anthony Jacquin
for many years as business partner, writer and producer at Head Hacking:
a pioneering company that popularised street hypnosis through products
and training, taught hypnosis to magicians, researched academic
perspectives on the nature of suggestion, and ran the annual hypnosis
conference ‘change | phenomena’. As a hacker he has presented his
research at numerous international conferences and he currently works in
threat intelligence. Kev is also a member of The Magic Circle.
Amy is a communications consultant with over 20 years of experience in
editorial, brand and creative. She’s also a hypnosis geek, with a
fascination for the 19th Century ‘Golden Age of Mesmerism’ and George du
Maurier’s Trilby. She’s a trained hypnotherapist, but doesn’t plan to
practise. Having tracked Kev down to demand answers on mentalism, Head
Hacking and all things Derren Brown, she’s now fully down the rabbit
hole on magic, too, and is writing a thesis on magic at corporate
gatherings. Her freelance business is
'The Looking Glass'.

Magicseen Lite #18. From the publishers. The April edition of
Magicseen's taster download magazine is out and awaiting your perusal.
Here are the contents. American comedy performer Michael Finney is one of
magic's larger-than-life characters, and we are delighted to be able to
offer the full feature interview with him that appeared in issue 103
(March 2022) of the main Magicseen. His story is interesting and it makes
for a great read. From the trick Masterclass section we have selected a
neat, clever card effect from Liam Montier called The Repeater, and
there is also a thought provoking article on Being The Magician and how
the perception that lay people have of you can change when they discover
your 'dark secret'! Comedy mentalist Graham Jolley is always fun to talk
to, and so we thought you would enjoy our 5 minute chat with him, and
then if you want to know exactly how to make the magic in your kids'
show more impactful, take in the advice from Christopher T Magician in
the article called Quiet, Not Riot.
And then finally, as ever we have cherry picked some of the latest
product reviews to ensure you make only great magic purchases! Magicseen
Lite #18 is free to download from
www.magicseen.com/product/magicseen-lite.

The April 2022 Mark Leveridge Podcast. The latest magic podcast from
Mark Leveridge is full of interesting conversation topics again this
month. Here's a run down: It’s not just our audiences who need
protecting from COVID at gigs. The danger that lots of online show
enquiries can produce a response fatigue. Lay people may struggle to see
your show fee as anything more than an arbitrary figure. Info on two
great value e-book bundles. The importance of reacting sensitively to an
audience’s mood or attitude. Understanding that anything that can go
wrong, at some point probably will. You can get free access either
from
www.markleveridge.co.uk/podcast-archive , or from
www.markleveridge.podbean.com where you can also sign up to be a
follower and receive each new monthly release automatically.

Point by David Regal - Alakazam Magic. The performer introduces a
wallet that contains 7 symbols printed on large cards. Each of the
symbols mean different things to different people but are all very
different choices. The spectators are given a completely free selection
of any of the symbols, and no matter what they choose the magician is
able to reveal that they predicted that choice from the very
beginning...
