Sharps
and Flats by John Nevil Maskelyne is out today, available
exclusively from CollectingMagicBooks.com. First published in 1894,
Sharps and Flats was one of the earliest and most thorough books
explaining the trickery of crooked gamblers. At the time of its release,
John Nevil Maskelyne was at the height of his fame, drawing large crowds
to his magic performances at The Egyptian Hall in Piccadilly, London.
With illustrations and clear descriptions, this book explains methods
from marked cards to hold-outs, weighted dice to secret reflectors. No
stone was left unturned in Maskelyne’s campaign against gambling cheats
and, as such, the book became a great success and is still seen as an
important reference.
This beautiful paperback book has 335 pages, French flaps, six plates,
many illustrations and is strictly limited to 500 copies. To order your
copy today for £20, or to see more photos and details, visit

Hackney Half Marathon,
raising money
for Breathe Magic. Edward Hilsum writes:
I'm delighted to be taking on the Hackney Half Marathon on Sunday 21st
May to raise money for the extraordinary work of Breathe Arts Health
Research.
Breathe is a small charity that delivers innovative, award winning
programmes that improve the physical and mental health of NHS staff,
patients and communities.
I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of being part of the Breathe Magic
programmes since 2015. The magic camps help young people with hemiplegia
as they learn, practice and perform magic created by Occupational
Therapists and Magic Circle magicians. Seeing these young magicians’
physical improvement and boosted confidence over the course of the
programme is a joy and their beaming smiles after their final theatre
performance is a powerful reminder of the true power that magic can
have.

Studio52
Presents Cards and Coffee. Saturday, June 3rd. Studio52 write: Crack
your knuckles (even though your Mum might've told you not to—it's cool)
and pour yourself a cup of coffee, Tony Chang, Ricky Smith, and Ben
Earl—bona fide sleight-of-hand artists are about to take you behind the
scenes with all new moves, sleights, and thinking in a three-hour
interactive live session. Best part? We'll send you the exclusively
printed notes after the event.
These are moves nobody has seen before, created and worked on in secret
in some lonesome cabin or cave by the sea (or at home). We’re talking
things like Ricky Smith's ridiculous Facelift Palm, a new Cherry Control
handling and doing moves in reverse, and Tony Chang's evolution of the
Side Steal and Spectator Cull, not to mention Ben Earl's Under Cover
Pass and New Theory Colour Change, plus so much more. You'll walk away
inspired and ready to level up. For more info

The
Invisible Man, Unicorn Theatre, London. Sunday 28th May to Sunday
18th June. Now you see me… Two artists, a stage technician and a
musician are waiting to start their show. Everything is in place, but
why hasn’t the audience arrived? Things start getting more and more
unclear from then on. Who is playing the piano? Whose coffee mug is
that, floating through the air? And who is that ghost sneaking off with
that extension cord? Are the performers really here, or not? And can you
actually see them, or will you just have to believe they are here?
Imagine how much fun you can have when no one can see you. Now The
Invisible Man invites you to take a seat and watch... well... no one
really.
Created in the Netherlands by highly acclaimed, mischievous
theatre-makers Theater Artemis (The Show in Which Hopefully Nothing
Happens) this surreal and hilarious show is all about everything that
you don’t see. And it secretly revels in the joy of remaining unseen.
"What a treat. A continuous, terrific game of hide and seek."
Scenes. "The roar of applause is well-deserved" De volkskrant.
