Ulster
Society of Magicians - Ted Oldham Memorial Lecture. James Hobart writes: At
the AGM on Monday 4th June 2001 it was proposed by Wallace Blair that the
society institute an Annual Ted Oldham Memorial lecture to pay tribute to and
remember a long standing Secretary of the society who also served as Chairman in
1955/56 and 1984/85. The first lecture was given by founding member Billy
McComb and subsequent speakers have included Max Maven, Wayne Dobson and Max
Fulham last year.
This year’s lecture will be given by Fay Presto - the first magician to be asked
to do so for a second time, albeit ten years apart. Fay will also officially
become President of the Ulster Society of Magicians at the dinner that evening.
The dinner booking deadline has passed but we may be able to squeeze in a few
more on application to the Secretary.
It will take place in Rockmount Golf Club, Carryduff, Belfast at 2.30 pm on
Saturday 11th May 2024 and finish around 5pm. The afternoon is free to members
attending the USM Chairman’s Dinner 2024 - £10 if not. £15 to non-members
attending the dinner and £20 if not. For further information please visit

Stepping
out with Stebbins and other Devious Strategies - An Evening with Tony Griffith
at The Bath Circle of Magicians. Roger Nicot writes: Long ago Tony took the step
of seeking out the easy way to do card magic, thus allowing him to concentrate
on the presentation. The Si Stebbins system has been proved to be one of the
most effective sets ups with countless amazing routines possible. The set up
initially appeared in a book written by Horacio Galasso called Giuochi di carte
e di memoria in 1593. The system was later shown to Si Stebbins and since then
has been credited to him.
During the first half of the evening Tony will demonstrate different routines
using two 'hidden weapons'. All are easy to do and require no sleight of hand
other than a false shuffle or cut and even these are not really needed. The
second half will be non-card magic and will comprise a variety of old friends
that have commercial value for the working performer. We hope to see you there.
Thursday May 16th at 8pm at The Bath Circle of Magicians St Mary's Church, High
Street/Queen's Square, Saltford BS31 3EL.

Staged
- The Brutally Honest Memoir of a Comedy Speciality Act. Wayne Slater, aka
El Loco, writes: My second book "Staged" is now available. Having spent over 40
years on stage, 25 of those presenting my comedy/magic act "The Dentist Chair",
I did not want the knowledge I gained to go to waste. I share with the reader
tried and trusted techniques from over 4,000 performances worldwide. Go in-depth
on how to structure a themed, comedy speciality act, from overture to ovation,
without speaking one single word.
This brutally honest memoir also covers my time performing. From
goal-busting triumphs, big pay-days and occasionally going down like a lead
balloon. Performing a one-man show at the Edinburgh Fringe, and on some of the
biggest cruise ships in the world, where I almost paid the ultimate cost for my
art... life itself. Presented in A4, this coffee table book is accompanied by
diagrams and photos of my original and highly creative props and collectibles.

Introducing
the E-Club Pro Gold Pass. Ever since E-Club Pro was launched in January
2011, membership has only been offered on a monthly pay basis. Although this is
a good way to fund membership payment in terms of cash flow, there are those who
prefer not to take on a regular commitment, even though the subscription can be
cancelled at any time. To get round this potential issue, Mark Leveridge has now
introduced the E-Club Pro Gold Pass. Available in 1 month, 3 month or 6 month
versions, a Gold Pass entitles the purchaser to all the benefits of a monthly
subscription member for a one off payment. During the period covered by the Gold
Pass, the member will receive a 50% discount on all MLM purchases, will get full
access to all of the great online content, plus will be sent the E-Club Pro
monthly email newsletter. The Gold Pass is perfect as a means of seeing what
E-Club Pro is all about, or just as a way to dip into the club for a short
period every now and again. For more details go to
www.markleveridge.co.uk and take advantage of everything that E-Club Pro has
to offer you.
