Terry Herbert at The Stag Theatre, Kent Magicians Guild, for a very special evening. Tuesday 27th August at The Stag Theatre, Sevenoaks. Mike Ingham, President of the Kent Magicians Guild, writes: Our next meeting is Terry Herbert's Close-up Lecture... this is Terry performing and explaining his close-up routines, the philosophy behind what he does, a look into this great man's comedy mind, his choice of effects and more. The second half of the evening will be a question and answer session with Terry. As I’m sure you are aware, Terry has a whole host of anecdotes and stories from his time in magic. This alone will be well worth coming for. This may possibly be Terry's final close-up lecture.

We at the KMG are honoured that he has chosen our club for this iconic lecture. Please do your best to come along, to give support to this great man of magic. Let me know if you would like to attend, my email is mdimagic@outlook.com. Due to space restrictions, we will need to know in advance how many people will be attending. If you are unable to attend, but wish to send a message of appreciation to Terry, I will happily collate all the comments and memories, and present them to him. I think this will make a lovely gift.

Tuesday 27th August 2024, at the Kent Magicians Guild, The Stag Theatre, London Road, Sevenoaks, Kent TN13 1ZZ. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. Free of charge. Visiting magicians very welcome. Terry wrote to the club: "For several years I have been doing a close-up set for Chris Woods Close Up Magic Shows that he presented in various Theatre Studios around the South, such as in the Plaza Suite at The Stag and The Churchill Theatre in Bromley. I no longer do them due to my age and mobility so this will probably be my swan song." 17.8.24

MLM Web Offers Aug/Sept 24. Time to tell you about the latest items to be offered at a generous discount on the MLM website. 1. Safety Catch - A length of rope is handed out for examination and the ends are then tied to form a rope loop. A spectator’s watch is borrowed and the strap done up so that the watch is also in a loop. The watch is then threaded on to the double strands of the rope loop which is held between the two hands. By moving his hands up and down, the performer shows how the watch can slide up and down the rope, but provided he does not let go with either of his hands, the watch is safe on the rope. Then the magician says he will demonstrate how to make the watch even safer. Suddenly the watch is seen to visibly penetrate one of the rope strands so that it is now linked onto the inside of the rope loop itself! The watch can be clearly seen to be secured on the rope loop, and the performer has to untie the ends of the rope in order to slide the watch off to return it to its owner. Price £6.00 (normally £10)

Triadic - Just released! A brand new book test by award-winning creators Chris Wardle and James Ward. Triadic is a three-phase routine with three separate reveals! No fishing, no memory work, no peeks, no cribs, no procedures, no guessing letters, no codes, no misses - a direct hit each time and completely out of your hands! Very easy to perform, Chris Wardle and James Ward have done all of the hard work for you, by creating a craftily-written and devious book test which you can perform almost immediately. It is completely self-contained, as the instructions are "hidden in plain sight" in the final two chapters of the book! Using an innocent-looking poetry book, you can divine a significant word from the start of the poem, then go on to describe the features, theme and tone of the chosen poem and finally you reveal a significant word on the final line! Multiple principles at play make this so easy to perform.

"I'm a force book junkie - I love them, I've owned many of the best and now I have another corker to add to the pile. The great advantages of this one are its size - it fits into a back pocket or a handbag - and its style: it appears simply to be a treasured book of poems. It also, crucially, delivers three clear climaxes every time, so if you handle it right it could establish your reputation as a versatile reader of minds."
Geoffrey Durham. "This is a genius concept, executed brilliantly. This poetry book is now a permanent fixture on my coffee table." Matt Edmondson. Available now from www.alakazam.co.uk.
