Sam
Lowe: The Imposter: "This is Sam, he sometimes feels like a fraud. He is a
Theatre Practitioner and Magician, but when a Magician performs a magic trick,
everyone knows there is some kind of deception involved. It looks like Sam can
read minds or predict the future, but he can't do any of those things for real.
Watch him 'fake it till he makes it' as this contemporary performance uses
spoken word, autobiographical performance, and mind magic to explore imposter
syndrome. Sam hopes that this copy perfectly summarises what the show is about.
Who or what is the real imposter here? Someone or something is pulling the
strings and fooling this Magician."
There is currently one opportunity left to come and watch this "Sleight of Mind Magician" (British Theatre Guide, 2024) in action live at The Library Festival, Oldham Library, Greaves Street, Oldham OL1 1AL on Thursday 12th September at 7pm. Tickets £6 via www.eventbrite.co.uk. Thank you to The Manchester Circle of Magicians, Hideout Youth Zone, The Greater Manchester Fringe, and Oldham Library for the support and development of this production. 31.8.24 |
The
Fabulist, at Charing Cross Theatre until 21st September. "The Fabulist -
named after the term many top-tier magicians use to describe themselves - is a
romantic musical comedy set in a movie studio in Tuscany in 1929. A wandering
fabulist, Agrofontido, is smitten with the eccentric screenwriter Clarice and
seeks her hand. Unfortunately, the characters find that romance can get
complicated in a hurry. James Farwell wrote the book and lyrics, which are based
on Antonio Paisiello's opera The Imaginary Astrologer. Written for Catherine the
Great, it was her favorite opera. Paisiello, who heavily influenced Rossini but
has a lighter tone, was the favourite composer of both her and Napoleon, for
whom he composed the coronation music. His style is joyous and uplifting." |
