New
From Mark Leveridge Magic. Just released in September as part of the
MLM Select range of magic, Mark is pleased to offer a strong card effect
called The Card Whisperer. Here's the plot. A deck is shuffled
and placed squared on the table. One of the spectators is invited to
lean forwards and to cut a block of cards from the top of the pack and
to turn the card faces towards himself so that he can see the card he
has cut to. He is also invited to show the card to others around him.
The helper is then instructed to cut this pile of cards so that his
selection becomes lost in the centre of his pile. He is then invited to
cut the packet of cards still on the table in half, place his cards onto
the lower half, and then replace the cut away block thus trapping his
selection somewhere in the deck’s centre. The pack is left squared on
the table. Due to the way the cards have been handled, the performer
could have no way of knowing the name of the chosen card. In fact, to
compound this, the deck itself is dropped back in its box and placed to
one side. The magician says he will now try to identify the name of the
selected card. Without the helper speaking a single word, the magician
is able to reveal the card that he freely chose! The Card Whisperer,
which costs just £7.00, requires no sleight of hand and is immediately
re-set. To watch a dem go to

Scottish
magicians Fifth Dimension to headline Monday Night Magic in New York, to
mark their 25th anniversary. A magical double act from the north
east of Scotland has announced a special appearance in New York to mark
a quarter of a century working together. Ivor Smith and Jeff Burns will
travel to the Big Apple this September to headline the longest-running
off-Broadway magic show, Monday Night Magic. The performance will
celebrate 25 years since they founded award-winning magic firm Fifth
Dimension in Aberdeen.
Ivor, Jeff and Bill Duncan met as members of Aberdeen Magical Society,
and founded Fifth Dimension in 1999. With Ivor and Jeff having a
background in marketing and accountancy, respectively – and all three
well known in the north east as magicians – they noticed a need for a
new kind of training and team development. Originally appearing as a
trio until Bill retired in 2011, the early days of Fifth Dimension were
filled with uncertainty. Ivor said: "We’ve worked hard to carve out a
niche that brings together our passions for business and magic, and turn
that into a credible, sustainable company. As part of our 25th
anniversary celebrations, we have teamed up with a couple of other
magicians – Eoin Smith and James Dickson – to write a new show called
Four Magicians. We’ve been touring it this year and will perform a big
homecoming show in Aberdeen in September, just after we get back from
New York. It's like a magic sketch show, unlike anything we have ever
done before." Find out more at
