Dr.
Alan Chitty. A great supporter of MagicWeek, and a staunch member of
the Wessex Magical Association, Alan passed away on the 19th March 2025
aged 86. Alan gained his degree in Mechanical Engineering, and in 1973
achieved a PhD. After time in industry, he moved into teaching, finally
becoming the Principal at Bournemouth and Poole College. Alan joined the
WMA in mid-2007, and contributed to their club magazine as well as
sending articles to MagicWeek. He used his invention talent to develop
four completely new tricks, with three of them becoming commercially
available through well-known dealers. Alan loved a live show, but also
gained much satisfaction from the lectures that he gave on the History
of Magic with a few tricks thrown in. His audiences were in Care Homes,
the WI and U3A or similar organisations. All his friends are saddened
that he's given his final performance. Roger Barton.

John
Derris.
Sadly John Derris passed away in the early hours of 14th June at the age of
94. John had been unconscious for a couple of weeks in hospital with a variety
of system failures. Tom Whitestone and I were close friends who visited him regularly. Only
days before his collapse, we spent 4 hours "sessioning" and he was still full of
ideas and drive. He often said talking magic was like "a shot in the
arm". It's a sad
farewell. John was the last of a legendary group that used to meet and session
together which included Jack Avis, Bobby Bernard, Alex Elmsley, Ted Danson, Roy
Walton, and Al Koran. Chris Wood.

Trevor
Lewis.
My good friend of many years, Trevor Lewis of North Wales passed away on the
morning of 16th June, 2025. A past president of the British Ring of the
International Brotherhood of Magicians, amongst his many awards was first
prize in the card magic category at FISM, 1976, which led to a strong friendship
with Fred Kaps.
A fluent Welsh speaker he had his own TV shows on Welsh television and appeared
on umpteen magic conventions all over the world.
He and Ireland's top magician Albert le Bas (the first magician I ever saw who
died way too young in 1972) became great friends and Albert taught Trevor some
of his routines including the Whiskey Egg Bag. A few years ago Trevor gave me a
Miser's Dream bucket he inherited from Albert.
Trevor, thank you for the friendship and the memories. Quentin
Reynolds.
