Ben
Sidwell's Desert Island Tricks.
"What if the strongest magic isn’t about flashy props, but about influence,
structure, and respect for your audience? We sit down with magician Ben Sidwell
to map an eight-trick card set that’s lean on gimmicks and heavy on intention,
designed to scale from a noisy bar to an intimate parlour room without losing

Kay Dyson
Lecture - Northamptonshire Magicians Club, 25th November. Joy Payne writes:
Kay Dyson, aka Miss Magic, was born to entertain. After leaving Loughborough with
a national diploma in sports management Kay joined Gerry Cottles Circus as a
flying trapeze artist and was a member of the Flying Belle Stars - the only
female flying act in the world at the time. It was whilst performing in this
group she had a serious accident that required a year of rehabilitation before
she embarked on a change of career.
Kay has audiences enthralled with her stunning sleight of hand. Her hilarious
cascade of complex magic tricks, combined with her charismatic personality,
makes her a refreshing re-working of the magician archetype.
Miss Magic has appeared on GMTV, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, Penn
and Teller's Wizard Wars, Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Richard & Judy, Lorraine,
the James Whale show, as well as appearing in a number of TV commercials. Her
qualifications in media training, improvisation and creativity, make her the
ultimate professional package and we are truly fortunate to have her lecture at
our club. The club room opens 7.30pm, lecture starts at 8pm. Admittance to the venue is via the front entrance to the
bar. Members free, magicians’ guest fee £15 – pay on the night.
Brafield Working Men’s Club, 35 Bedford Road, Brafield-on-the-Green,
Northamptonshire NN7 1BD.

Jackpot
Prize Box by Phil Peters - New from Merlins. The basic effect consists of a
prize being locked into the Jackpot Prize Box; the prize can be cash/banknotes,
sweets/chocolates or even a spectator's borrowed watch. The locked box is
suspended on a knotted rope eliminating the chance of the magician manipulating
the props. The box is locked with a padlock and five keys are presented, only
one of which opens the lock. The magician gives the spectators a fair chance to
win the prize, but ultimately only the magician's key works. The keys can be
mixed in a bag or a glass, and four volunteers are invited to each select a key,
leaving one key for the magician. Each volunteer is given the chance to try
their chosen key, with the promise that if it opens the lock, they win the
prize. In every instance, the spectator's keys fail to open the lock. The final
key, the one left for the magician, is then used to open the lock, allowing the
magician to retain the prize! Visit
www.merlinswakefield.com for more details and to watch a video.
