Film
of Patrick Page’s magic from the 1960s. The Davenport Collection
write: Patrick Page (1929-2010) became widely known and loved in magic
for so many reasons: as a skilful and entertaining performer, and as an
inventor, teacher, consultant and, not least, author. This family film,
shot by Fergus Roy in the 1960s, captures an informal performance by
Pat. Pat worked as manager in the Davenports magic shop for over a
decade. Family members are among his greatest fans. We are grateful to
Janette Page, Pat’s daughter, for permission to share this film on the
Davenport Collection website. See

The
Mesmerist - Watford Palace Theatre,
to 21st March.
In 2020, Rufus Hound learnt of the death of his estranged grandfather. The last
five years have been a dizzying journey of discovery for Rufus, which culminates
in the headline production of Watford Palace Theatre’s spring season, The
Mesmerist.
The production is a collaboration between Rufus and Watford Palace Theatre, as
he takes his family history and weaves in the discovery that his grandad had
been a magician with the stage name The Mesmerist.
Old boxes Rufus inherited were filled with illusions, journals and props from
his grandfather’s final magic show, previously performed in its entirety only
once at Watford Palace Theatre in 1983. Intrigued, fascinated, out of work
during lockdown and looking for a new project, Rufus learnt the show. This is
that show. That labour of rediscovery and reinvention is uncovered and ready to
be shared, as The Mesmerist is born from a legacy, resurrected from a forgotten
past.
Prepare for magic, mystery and unforgettable theatre as multi-talented actor,
comedian and presenter Rufus Hound (One Man, Two Guvnors, National Theatre; A
Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story, Birmingham Repertory Theatre) takes centre
stage. 2nd to 21st March.
Director: Steve Marmion. Magic Consultant: Scott Penrose. 2nd to 21st March at Watford Palace
Theatre, 20 Clarendon Road, Watford WD17 1JZ.

Northamptonshire
Magicians’ Club Centenary Celebrations 2026 and new meeting venue
information. Joy Payne writes: On Tuesday 24th February
Northamptonshire Magicians’ club held their President’s centenary dinner
at the Marriott hotel in Northampton. Tickets are initially available to
club members and always sell out on the first night. This year was no
exception and saw us being entertained by world class acts, with Wayne
Fox and Fay Presto entertaining at the tables during the meal. Honoured
guests included The Lady Mayor and her partner, Marvin and Alison
Berglas, Sponsors of the night Andrew Roberts and guests, and Marc
Spelmann – who presented the Scott Penrose Award to Mind2Mind. We had
the usual crazy raffle, this year our star prize was over £2k of magic.
We are excited to announce our new venue for meetings. Due to increased
membership, both from the local area and further afield, we have
outgrown the venue at Brafield. Northamptonshire Magicians Club meetings
will now be held at Woody’s Bar & Restaurant, Clannell Road, (Tesco Car
Park), East Hunsbury, Northampton, NN4 0JF.
Thanks to our brilliant Program Secretary David
Penn, we have
guest lecturers lined up for most of 2026 – check out
www.northamptonshiremagicians.uk for details. David is also bringing
back the LADs convention on 27th September, further information will
follow in due course.
