Destination Florida: Peter Moran
Reported by Geoffrey Newton
Manchester Magician Peter Moran is well known to the stars. No he’s
not taken up astronomy as well as magic, I mean TV stars. During his career in
the technical side of TV, film and theatre production he has worked with many
celebrities we normally only see in our lounge on the screen. It is for this
reason he seems these days to be a favourite choice when a comedy magician is
needed to support major events these people have lent their names to. A massive
such activity took place when Destination Florida held a Summer Ball at Mere
Golf and Country Club (Cheshire) last Saturday. The photo shows Peter baffling
Kym Marsh (Michelle in Coronation Street) at a packed house also attended by
other stars of the soap including Chris Gascoigne (Peter Barlow), Shobna Gulati
(Sunita) Michelle Keegan (Tina McIntyre) and Graham Hawley (John Stape). The
speciality act was in the very capable hands of Andrew Van Buren with his plate
spinning extravaganza. The entertainment also featured Denise Welch with husband
Tim Healey and Dancing on Ice star Matt Ivers. The compere was Darren Proctor
from Key 103 Radio. The hostess for the evening was BBC Radio Manchester’s Becky
Want who I remember interviewing me on her show during The Magi centenary
celebrations a couple of years ago.
For the past 21 years Destination Florida has been specialising in providing
holidays to this famous US area for children who have missed out on the fun and
laughter due to illness. A full medical team travels with them to give as normal
a life as possible. It is envisaged that the final figure raised on the night
will exceed £100,000.
I feel the entertainment profession in general can be very proud that their
talents can help raise money to support such worthwhile causes like this one.
