Oliver
Meech has enjoyed two sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe. As a creator, his
tricks have appeared in The Jerx, Elixir and Magic Magazine. He has lectured at
TEDx, The Magic Circle and magic clubs across the UK and he is also a conference
speaker and an award-winning writer. His books include bestsellers 'The Plot
Thickens' and 'Plot Twists' and this new lecture is based around his latest book
'Effervescent'.
I had been hoping to see Oliver lecture or perform for some time, having heard
great things about him and having read some of his ideas, so it was great to
finally see him lecture, and purchase his latest book! I always enjoy lectures
which have original ideas to offer, or interesting snippets of theory or 'out of
the box' creativity and this had all three!
There was a wide range of effects expertly performed and explained, which
utilised cards, coins, a sugar cube, a music box and even a jar of pasta sauce!
I won't spoil your enjoyment of the lecture by describing the effects, but what
I will say is that there was easily something for everyone and no full-on
knuckle-busting sleights were required; Oliver had done the heavy lifting for us
with his ingenious plotting and intriguing presentations. Oliver also shared
some of the methods he uses to devise his effects and how we can boost our
magical creativity.
'Effervescent' is a very apt title for his new lecture, as his tricks and
presentational style are like magic combined with Berocca – fizzing, powerful
and full of surprises!
Don't miss this lecture! Highly recommended!
