Paul Gordon Lecture
South Downs Magicians
July 2024
Reviewed by Paul Sturgess
Paul’s reputation as a magician who, first and foremost, entertains, did not
disappoint us at his recent lecture for South Downs Magicians.
He commenced with his well renowned "Head to Head Poker" from a perfectly freely
shuffled pack of cards. The technique of achieving this was just as entertaining
as the effect itself, and introduced us to the "I wasn’t expecting that!!" credo
that Paul tries to inspire into all his magic. This led to a very interesting
discussion about how to achieve this in all our magic.
Performances of his own Killer OMG; Mixing Drinks and Darned Pain in The Neck
continued the lecture and this led us into a very entertaining discussion around
both Body Language and also making the spectator feel like the focus of the
magician was on them.
Paul’s Collendon Aces routine provided great amazement and was a stunning Ace
production piece using the Glide and Asciano Spread.
Paul then reminisced with amusing tales of foreign travel and Bernard Manning
before finishing the evening with his world-famous Corner of Piccadilly.
Paul received long applause at the end of his act and several members purchased
some of his routines at a discounted rate.
All-in-all a thoroughly entertaining evening from a highly skilled close-up
magician.
