Oh,
what a joy, to watch a niche magician totally in love with his genre. Vinny
Sagoo, the face of Neo Magic, has found, not only a place for independent
purveyors of magic, but also a very big place for “Maths Magic” in our art.
Vinny is totally in love with Math Magic, and it shows in the joy with which he
presents his lecture.
Despite Math Magic having never been anything many of our club had shown an
interest in, Vinny entranced all with some wonderful magic – and not all of it
“Math” related. Neo-Magic are renowned for not only Math but also fun, fun, fun
packet tricks, and we all had fun at Vinny’s lecture.
The lecture started with one of his 5-star math tricks “Quadratic”, and boy,
what a powerful start. If you want your audience to think you’re a genius, this
is as best a start as you can perform, and when you know the secret, so easy to
replicate. In fact, that’s the same for many of Vinny’s tricks, all of which
he’s also put to paper in his latest books.
Vinny continued with Mind Race, which is a clever multi-stage marked-deck trick
that is fun to perform, and Turkish Delight, named after the location that he
thought of it during a private family holiday.
Vinny, spent some time regaling us about his childhood times learning magic from
the renowned magician, Roy Walton, and he displayed his cardistry, with the
wonderfully baffling key card trick, Buzz, and a slop shuffle trick he calls
Trioomph.
To close the first half of the lecture, Vinny performed two other tricks of his
own, Mental Match and Crossed.
Vinny’s second half started with a real Brainteaser, adding numbers as a group,
and yet making us all reach completely the wrong number!
Some of Vinny’s magic is based on staple card effects, and so it was with his
next tricks, using firstly a rainbow deck to add a touch of sparkle to a Gemini
Calling effect, and then Vinny’s take on the perfect match; ideal for wedding
magicians.
And to close, Vinny turned the famous Magic Square on its head, by producing an
impossible looking, but easy to remember, NON-Magic Square.
I would highly recommend Vinny’s lecture to any Magic Club. Yes, it sets up like
a dealer lecture, and yes, this correspondent was tempted to part with his
money, but Vinny came across to us all as such a lovely man and very skilled in
his art.
