A Miraculous Step Back In Time

'Amazing Mysteries', Beccles Public Hall & Theatre
2nd February

I never cease to be amazed at the attention to detail that international illusionist Chris North puts into his shows.

On Saturday, 2nd February, I was delighted to be able to attend Chris’s latest presentation, Amazing Mysteries, at the lovely Beccles Public Hall. This venue is the perfect setting for this type of event.

From the moment we entered the auditorium we were immersed in the Victorian atmosphere. The circular tables laid out in true Music Hall fashion, so that like minded folk could socialise prior to the performance. Throughout the evening all the music was of the Victorian era, a large sepia image of Her Most Gracious Majesty was visible on an otherwise darkened stage.

The house lights dimmed, and we saw a short cinematographic magical display using all kinds of camera tricks. Hilariously funny. Then Chris, in full Victorian garb, entered the stage to roof raising applause. He explained that what we were about to witness did not rely on camera trickery. He then proceeded to mystify and amaze us with a selection of superb illusions, before introducing The Victorian Enchantress, again dressed top to toe in Victorian fashion; Belinda truly did enchant us. Again such attention to detail as the instructions to he new illusion were played on a scratchy phonograph record. This took us to the interval during which more Music Hall music was played.

The second half was devoted to the phenomena of the Spirit Cabinet. The two volunteers on stage were truly amazed by the happenings. This was a superb ending to a truly magical evening. Chris and Belinda left the stage to heartfelt applause. The audience left happy and uplifted.

This show is on tour, if you missed this one, make sure you see the next one.
