Michael
Diamond's 'The Real Inside Secrets of Escapology' Lecture - The Order of
the Magi, Manchester
22nd September
Jonathan Royle writes: We are
pleased to welcome Michael Diamond to The Order of the Magi in
Manchester for a fascinating and detailed look into the world of
escapology.
This lecture explores the history, techniques, and realities behind one
of magic's most intriguing performance areas. Michael shares insights
into legendary escape artists, the equipment they used, and how these
methods have developed over time. Alongside this, he will demonstrate
escapes from a range of restraints, including handcuffs, straitjackets,
chains, and padlocks.
Drawing from his own collection, Michael will present a variety of
authentic restraints and explain how they function, along with the
practical techniques used to escape from them. He will also address some
of the misleading information that has appeared in print over the years,
offering a clearer understanding of what really works and why. This
includes the story behind the well known "Mirror Cuffs" and their place
in escapology history.
The lecture also looks at the life of an escapologist, covering the
challenges performers face, the realities behind the scenes, and the
rivalry that has existed within the field. There is also an exploration
of escapology's historical role in exposing fraudulent mediums, adding
further context to its place within the wider world of magic and
performance.
This is a lecture aimed at magicians with an interest in escapology,
offering both historical insight and practical understanding from an
experienced performer.
Visitors are very welcome. Tickets are £10 per person when booked online
in advance, or £15 on the night. 22nd September at 7.30pm. See
www.ticketsource.com. |

Bron Ivy Lecture - The Surrey Society of Magicians
24th September
Paul Dickson writes:
Bron Ivy is a magician with a particular love of storytelling, warmth and
audience connection. She began learning magic as a way of sharing stories and
has since become an Associate Member of The Inner Magic Circle with Silver Star.
In 2026 she also became the first woman to win Family Entertainer of the Year at
Blackpool.
Her lecture, The Forgotten Art of Kindness, explores an aspect of performance
that can sometimes get overlooked among methods and moves: how we connect with
the people watching us, and how the way we treat an audience can help turn a
trick into something genuinely memorable.
What to Expect:
Bron’s approach to making a meaningful connection with an audience.
How to create an engaging and emotive story around a piece of magic.
The role of kindness and respect when working with spectators and volunteers.
Ideas drawn from Bron’s experience across children’s, family, parlour and stage
shows.
Ways of making magic feel more personal and memorable, regardless of the type of
material you perform.
Practical thinking that applies well beyond family entertainment.
This isn’t simply a lecture for children’s or family entertainers. If you
perform close-up, parlour or stage magic and want audiences to remember you and
the experience, rather than just remembering that they saw a clever trick, there
should be plenty here to think about. Thursday 24th September at The Surrey Society of Magicians, Nomad Theatre, Bishopsmead Parade, East Horsley,
Leatherhead KT24 6RT. Doors 7.30pm. Lecture 8pm. 15-minute interval. Ends
10pm. Visiting Magicians are welcome with a £10 fee, payable on the
door.

Northamptonshire.
It’s happening. LADs is back — for one final time.
After eight years of sold-out events and unforgettable lectures, LADs (Lectures
and Dealers) returns in 2026 — and this time, it’s going to be something truly
special.
Organised once again by David Penn, Patron of the Northamptonshire Magicians
Club, LADs became the biggest one-day magic convention in the UK — attracting
over 300 delegates every year. But for the past few years, magicians have kept
asking the same thing: "Can we do it one more time?"
Well, now we are.
To celebrate the roots of it all — and the club where it all began — members of
the Northamptonshire Magicians Club have spent the last five years raising funds
to bring back LADs for one final event, marking the club’s upcoming centenary.
Let's celebrate 100 years of magic together!
Expect a full day of international lectures, inspiring power talks (presented in
a TED-style format), a dedicated lecture environment, and a completely separate
dealers’ area featuring the best names in magic retail.
Tickets go on sale on the 22nd of April. If you click "Buy Tickets" you
will not be able to complete your purchase until the 22nd of April at 10am.
Only 200 tickets will be available due to venue capacity.
70+ NMC members already expected to attend.
This will sell out — book early to avoid disappointment. Put the date in your
diary now! 10am - 8pm on

Steve Faulkner Lecture -
Wolverhampton Circle of Magicians
14th October
Lee Raybone writes: WCM is delighted to
welcome Steve Faulkner, an award-winning street, close-up and stage
magician described by Rory Adams as "one of the best magic teachers in
the world right now." Steve runs one of the longest-running magic
training sites on the web, onlinemagic.co, alongside his review channel
Real Magic Review and his podcast, Steve Faulkner's Magic Show, and
works as a business coach and leadership trainer at leadwithsteve.com.
In "The Biggest Myths in Learning Magic," Steve tackles the constant
stream of 'rules' magicians are told they must follow to win the respect
of audiences and peers — advice that can be confusing, often contradicts
what actually works in the real world, and, though well-meaning, can be
detrimental to your magic and even your mental health. With three
decades of performing experience and plenty of that advice behind him,
Steve knows exactly which of it he wishes he'd ignored — and in this
lecture, he'll make sure you don't make the same mistakes.
Join us for an evening that could save you years on Wednesday 14th
October. Lecture begins at 8pm (doors 7.30pm) at the Hollybush, 494 Penn
Rd, Wolverhampton WV4 4HU. Visiting magicians are welcome for a fee of
just £10.00 paid on the door. If you wish to reserve a seat, please let
us know via

Magic on the Mersey
- Liverpool Town Hall
16th October
Magic on the Mersey,
the comedy magic show which has entertained thousands of Merseysiders
and tourists alike will celebrate its fifth anniversary this summer with a new
venue - Liverpool Town Hall.
Steve Price, an award-winning Member of The Magic Circle – the world’s most
prestigious magical society – launched Magic on the Mersey just as the country
was emerging from Covid restrictions. He had spent much of his career as a
leading cruise ship magician, and he describes the move on land as his most
challenging year.
“It feels like going full-circle,” says Price. “The Lord Mayor of Liverpool,
Mary Rasmussen, attended the very first show in August 2021. If you had told me
then that five years, and 100 shows, later I’d be bringing it to Liverpool Town
Hall, I don’t think I would have believed you.”
Having performed on cruise ships and in venues across the globe, Price admits he
had no clear roadmap when he created Magic on the Mersey – only determination.
“In the early days, it was really, really difficult to get an audience,” he
explains. “But as more people came, word-of-mouth took hold – and before I knew
it, five years had passed.”
The performances will take place in the atmospheric crypt of Liverpool Town
Hall, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience world-class magic in
one of the city’s most majestic and historic buildings.
Blending expert sleight-of-hand with laugh-out-loud comedy, Price promises an
evening of astonishment, connection and unforgettable moments.
“My job is to take the ordinary and make it extraordinary. Magic on the Mersey
is a chance to forget the worries of life and be transported to a world where
anything is possible. It’s what we all need.”
Magic on the Mersey,
Liverpool Town Hall, High Street, Liverpool L2 3SW.
Friday 16th October.
Doors open 7pm. Show starts 7.30pm.
Running time: 75 minutes (no interval).
Limited capacity seating.

Houdini Halloween 100 - London & Brighton
26th & 29th October
Houdini Halloween 100 - The Magic Circle's spectacular centenary celebration of
the life of the legendary Master Mystifier. Magician, escape
artiste, daredevil, showman, aviation pioneer, silent movie star and
scourge of spiritualists, Harry Houdini - being ever the consummate
showman - made his 'final escape' on Halloween, 1926.
A century on, we commemorate his extraordinary life, and death, with
this never-to-be-seen-again live biopic, written and presented by
lifelong fan Paul Zenon, featuring signature Houdini effects and stunts,
performed by a cast of very special guests.
What better place to stage this unique Halloween event than the very
space where Houdini performed arguably the single most important and
pivotal show of his career - the theatre of the London Hippodrome
Casino, Leicester Square. Monday 26th October. Doors 6.30pm, show time 7pm (2 hours,

CCC
Convention - Midlands
17th & 18th April
From the organisers: CCC is back with a
new line up, and a brand new venue. Tickets are first come first served, the new
venue has a brilliant small theatre with an overhead camera and PA system, as
well as being attached to a bar that is open until 1am! The lineup for 2027 is…
Graeme Shaw. Graeme is a really busy working professional and also runs
Magicbox. His lecture involves some of his commercial close up magic, as well as
tips for family entertainers! Graeme is a past winner of family entertainer of
the year at Blackpool magic convention, so he certainly knows his stuff!
Etienne Pradier. Hilariously funny, extremely commercial magic with a
touch of “oh la laaa” if you haven’t seen him lecture before, you are in for a
treat!
Vinny Sagoo. Vinny uses sleight of hand, as well as devilishly clever
mathematical principles to create wonderful close up magic that will fool, and
entertain you!
Daniel Chard. Daniel is an expert cardician and a busy working pro, he
also does a comedy stand up act that can be seen regularly at Smoke and Mirrors
in Bristol. A lecture that will have something for everyone.
Jay Adkins. Jay has been collecting Tenyo magic since he was a young
child, and has some very rare and extremely fooling pieces. He will be
demonstrating and talking all things Tenyo in his lecture. I’ve seen this myself
and it is thoroughly enjoyable!
Matt Windsor. Matt has been at the top of the corporate entertainment
field for many years, he is resident magician at Manchester United and is known
for his pickpocketing skills as well as being a brilliant entertainer. Matt will
be teaching some of the techniques he has developed over the years, as well as
telling some hilarious (and true) stories. I’ve heard some and they are so
funny. See
